Three separate studies are looking at alternative metals for production, U.S. mint facilities, and how consumers use currency. “These studies…will result in the development of alternative options for the penny and the nickel,” the president’s fiscal year 2015 budget says." lizard king |

Quoting: leonine If those six rolls of coins were Silver, I bet you wouldn't complain. Point is, Nickles and Copper pennies are soon to become like Silver coins. It is already getting a little tough to find copper pennies, and once the Nickle is retired, they will "disappear" as well. Think of the metals Copper and Silver as the poor mans Silver. They are still a store of value, they just lack ease of portability. what can you buy with a nickel today ? how about a penny ? Copper Ahead User ID: 30358350 United States 03/04/2014 08:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Six Nickels weigh about 1.057 ounces. Ten pre-1982 pennies weigh about 1.096 ounces. Ten copper-plated zinc pennies weigh about .088 ounces. So, just as a 1964 Quarter is worth more than one minted today, so has the penny gone. Now, our last piece of value, the American Nickle, is on the chopping block as well. Quoting: leonine I can see it now. One day in the near future of America, 1 ounce of Copper will be valued at $1.00. The cities are already being stripped clean. |
