Bitcoin will stay alive as long as there are people willing to buy it or believing it's valuable. Gold or dollar has value because the masses believe it has value and are willing to act (buy or sell) based on their belief. Value is a subjective idea based on people's belief system.

I even have heard rumor of fans chasing after Michael Jackson's urine. It must be valuable for them.

Bitcoin will not stay alive. First of all it is not a currency. A currency is based upon a number of variables, securities, identities and guarantees. The value is determined by all these factors. The currency can be exchanged from Country to Country based on their current worth. Albeit a little bit flaw. But Bitcoin is merely a make up commodity, produced from a computer. Its value can only be determined by the amount of people buying into the con. It is backed by nothing, Guaranteed by nothing and secured by nothing.

The only people buying into the concept are those who wants to make a quick buck, criminals and assorted number of shady people. People who are strongly advocating it, are the ones with most to lose. Because when everyone stops buying into the concept. At the end it is worth absolutely. Wait for it.
