WOW! I just finished reading an article about cracks found in the wings on new Boeing 777's and now I read that a new Boeing 777 has crashed.

I don't think a 777 has ever been lost before, has it? There was the one at Heathrow, but I that doesn't really count. You can either read that as "mechanical problem highly unlikely" or "it had to happen eventually".

This a/c has ACARS and if that is not transmitting data either not a good sign.
