I think the best solution -- long term -- is to start doing whatever you can reduce pointless expenses that cultural marxists and liberal capitalists want you to spend money on so you can fit into this pile of shit they call a "culture" while also seeking you produce your own necessities [food, water, electricity] on your own property [obviously isn't going to work for those of you living in Section 8 garden apartments, but fuck your life you parasite].
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55412900

Why would it not work for them? If they know how to grow, it won't matter what YOU think of them, Canadian-whoever-you-are.
 Quoting: New Eve

If you don't own the land you live on [and you don't own a Section 8 apartment], you aren't allowed to cultivate the land with food crops.

Most garden apartment and townhouse complexes won't let you cultivate foodstuffs even if they aren't Section 8.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55412900

Ok, I did not know that Canada had Section 8. ?????
Anyway, I do not see a problem here in America. I know plenty of people that can and will grow their own food, even in the city. There are plent of Section 8 places around Norfolk, VA with places to grow both inside and outside.

FOR THIS COUNTRY EVER TO BE BACK ON ITS FOOTING WITH EXPORTING AND MANUFACTURING THE WAGES NEED TO BE AT CURRENT INFLATION RATES, BETWEEN $1 AND $3 PER HOUR.

For that to happen all real estate prices must be 10 cents on the dollar.

Nothing else will make this country stay together.

IF YOU ARE UNEMPLOYED: take any job that will hire you, and if they won't give you a decent wage, QUIT! Leave them in the lurch! Stop letting them take advantage of you by paying you a wage that is too low.

 Quoting: New Eve

LOL

That'll look good on the resume.
 Quoting: Evil_Twin

Maybe not, but it is not all about the resume. It is about surviving in this world.....

Stay confident, stay true, and at your next interview, just tell them, "I left there because they would not treat me right and they would not pay me a decent wage. Here's all the work that I did for them.....(List your accomplishments on that job.)"Then look the interviewer in the eye and ask for a decent wage....You will not get what you want until you do the work and ask for what you need.

How will that make the country hold together?

I am convinced we need a higher minimum wage, I'm thinking $100,000 an hour. That way after one shift we can almost be millionaires. Two days and we are there baby!

Now of course this is crazy, but is it any more delusional than thinking that a "minimum wage" can be pre-determined for all jobs and all locations?

Jobs should pay what people will work for. Wages too low, people wont work.

The key is to get illegals out of these jobs and out of the country. US citizens will landscape and roof houses and bus tables if pay is reasonable. Illegals drive down wages and benefits. Wake the fuck up

I don't know what world you live in but wages ARE too low and people ARE working so your idea of "wages too low, people wont work" seems pretty fucking stupid doesn't it?

Everybody who is working a minimum wage job should go and try to get hired at Costco.

Average wages there are like $19.50/hr after you start at like $11.50 and work there for a few years.

This argument is an illusion of the modern world.

The US dollar is governed by relative factors controlled by the Federal reserve.

The single most powerful tool that is being used to make people more poor is inflation.

If the minimum wage goes up, you will see a rise in the cost of living. (Inflation)

Instead of begging/demanding/extorting for the illusion of gained wealth, I think it would be more wise to educate yourselves on the creation/destruction of wealth cycle within the current economic system of the United States. After this is accomplished I think you should unite people to change that economic system to a form which doesn't allow for wealth destruction/theft.

A person working at the bottom of the stack needs to have the hope and ability to improve his/her life. When wealth is confiscated and destroyed, the ability to rise from your station goes with it. The first step of preventing the destruction/confiscation of wealth is tying your currency to something which cannot be manipulated outside your personal control.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23764026

Ok, thank you, this is a constructive argument. And what would that something which cannot be manipulated outside my personal control be?
 Quoting: New Eve

A commodity based currency which is unaffected by inflation/deflation. A currency tied to real tangible commodities. (There are men much more savvy in finance who have written down there ideas if you wish to learn more do a search.)

If you look at places like Washington state who has been increasing their minimum wage with inflation you will see that as wage increases so do costs.

Presently the United States economy is spiraling out of control.

For example: If you were to compare 1 gallon of gas in the 1960s to now, what would the result be? Have wages held to that rate of commodity inflation compared to the dollar? --No EVERYONE has been getting a little poorer every year for some time.

Here's a chart the supposedly accounts for inflation
[link to www.infoplease.com]

The unfortunate problem is the Federal Government and the Federal Reserve, and other investment entities & banks have been in collusion to manipulate these stats.

The crusade for a higher minimum wage still ultimately goes back to those who control the currency, and the unfortunate problem today is that aside from the inflationary wholesale theft of American wealth businesses and individuals are preyed on by government regulators, taxes, and artificial created problems which stagnate their ability to create wealth for themselves, or hire employees.

We are in a parasitic cycle. Unions, and organized labor are just another form. Most Union heads are political entities using dues and other kick backs to make tremendous non-profit profits. Ultimately, the worker and the employers get screwed so that the Union goons can prosper.

The same can be said by our politicians. We have now entered a stage of our civilization where it pays more to be a parasite then a producer.

Meanwhile, our media and political groups have created this frenzy mentality within people to attack the problem by joining groups which will help sustain parasites. They use buzzwords, and topics to insight people into action without knowledge.

The minimum wage should be abolished, but along side that Federal Income Tax, the Federal Reserve, the present US currency, and ALL FEDERAL LEVEL REGULATIONS, and deptments associated with making them. A new economic system should exist.

There are too many people that feed off of others work. The rhetoric now is to blame your boss, or the corporations, but I think that's a simple misdirection. BLAME THE POLITICIANS AND THE BANKERS because they're stealing from us all!

You're a special kind of stupid aren't you?

If a person wants to eat and have a roof over their head they are going to accept any job that is paying MONEY. You need MONEY to eat and clothe yourself. Even if it's a small amount, it's better than not working a job because wages are too low and living on the street.

But that's okay if it's a low paying job because people like you are paying for their fucking welfare and housing so even though the small amount of money they are making may not be enough to survive, you'll pick up the tab for whatever else is needed.

Wonderful Post.

With the ongoing economy, the less the average american can afford to spend, the more our country is going to suffer. There has to be people to buy the products being made. Without an increase in a living wage, the less of those products are bought.

That creates a domino effect because those companies will have to lay off (and lower wages) due to decrease demand, and that will create even less spending power bringing more layoffs. This will slowly erode the middle class even further than it has become.

This is what the wealthy wants, they are the ones that control the republicans. It is all cool-aid and the sheep laps it up, becoming rabid dogs against anyone that disputes the propaganda they have been fed by the wealthy. It is heart breaking to see those under the delusion become so hateful and bitter towards anyone that speaks out against it.

Increasing min. wage will not only create more jobs (due to increase buying power), but it will also expand the middle class. The rich doesn't want that, they want money our pockets deserve.

The left/right paradigm does not exist. How many poor federal level politicians do you know from either party?

The idea of wealth envy, and politicized economics is nothing new. The National Socialists did it in Germany before and during world war II.

This is not a Democrat/Republican thing. The minimum wage is a distraction. Keep people begging for scraps while the Federal Reserve continues to destroy the currency.

We're all getting poorer. Inflation doesn't discriminate!

That's just it. It's not just workers. There has been the prevailing idea that workers should be at odds with their employers. When the fact of the matter is that the politicians and bankers (Not all of them, but many of them) are the ones keeping that idea going. (It's so that the workers and employers don't realize how much the politicians and bankers are taking from them!)

Look at those getting wealth and power at present. You will find more that you can name that got it through ill means then through honest ones. Think about how many millionaires and billionaires have made their fortunes from non-profit organizations....

We need to flush the economy to clear out the parasites. To many people taking, and not enough producing.

Meanwhile our media and politicians want the unemployed and working class to blame the employer.

(Sorry it's a little disjointed there. I went a bit ranty/stream of consciousness.)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23764026

I see what you are saying, but if minimum wage was abolished, it would crash all commodities. The wealthy would swoop in buying anything and everything up taking any resource we possibly have. That is what they want...everything.

Look at the great depression, and see where commodities got you. It didn't get far.
 Quoting: CountryPumpkin

Well, our system was on the gold standard. Who confiscated the gold then? It wasn't the wealthy. It was our government.

There are problems with commodity based systems. Particularly if you compare it as things are now. You have more gold bought on paper then is presently out of the ground. (That is insane.)

I'm not a brilliant economist, but I could see the potential for a system to be derived through the value of raw materials, produced goods and services to be quantified. It would take a lot of time to balance out, but I think it's within our species potential.

As it stands now, our present system is designed to make people thank those who are robbing them every day VS at least in the old days we knew had the gold, and if they were unfair we could march on them with pitchforks and torches.

I prefer at least all the players to be visible on the playing field myself.

Demand that you be paid more than your labor is worth! Demand that the unemployment rate go up! Demand that more workers be laid off because businesses can't afford to pay them all! Demand that prices rise! Demand that private businesses rescue you because the government screwed up the economy! Demand all of this, because we're all special snowflakes who are entitled to everything we want and shouldn't have to work for it!

Or are you one of those lazy bosses who does not know how to communicate with your employees? You sure sound like one here. Have I touched a nerve?
 Quoting: New Eve

Yeah, you probably struck the nerve where the boss started at minimum wage, worked his ass off for 20+ years, now enjoys a higher paycheck and benefits because of it, and doesn't think it is fair for the new generation of "I want it now" hippies to come in asking for it all right away. It never has worked that way, it doesn't now, and it shouldn't ever.

That quote was based off of NAFTA. Which removed tarriffs and opened free trade to Mexica and Canada. The insanity of that is that NAFTA is once again a currency issue.

The jobs going overseas, the imbalance in the world all has to do with currency manipulation.

The average worker, and even most employers have no power to effect a currency directly.

Therefore, begging and complaining about not having work, or not having a decent wage goes back to the people who have profited from currency manipulations. (Bankers and Politicians.)

I understand it was referred to Nafta...but it still has merit when directed towards the abolishment of min. wage. NAFTA took money out of Americans hands either directly (those lost their jobs), and indirectly (lack of money to push through the economy. Our country is still suffering greatly due to NAFTA alone.

But...

How do you think inflation and deflation occurs? It is the average american whether they push the money or hold the money through the economy. They are directly tied to it, and they directly effect currency.

Since it takes money out of the rich hand, and puts more into the hand of the middle class and poor...its a bad thing, taboo.

But it should be raised to a living wage. I would rather see regional set minimum wage, dependant on what the cost of living is there.

parasites are an apt description. sucking up resources and paying virtually nothing back into the system. it seems no can see the link between low wages & benefits and the hoard of parasitic leeches that have descended upon this country

It really depends. Where I live, it is estimate $12.80 is needed to afford rent, utilities, and food each month. It is dependant where you live, on what you need to live.
