This is actually true. I did a paper in college on this very subject. The higher the mexican population in the area, the lower the wages are. This holds true whether you flip burgers or do IT work. It doesnt matter, wages are lowered actross the board.

It's much more complicated then that now. You see, the total in American wealth is actually not held by private individuals. That is why the national deficit is such a big deal.

15 Trillion dollars. In order to match that the US population of 300 million each citizen would need an actual net worth and disposable dollar value equal to 50,000 dollars.

The unfortunate problem with this is debt, and net worth. Most Americans are in debt as bad as the government, and do not actually have a positive net worth.

That's why I say we're presently in a currency death spiral, and raising the minimum wage will do little to ease the pain which is coming to us all.

Inflation and deflation are not a result of every day Americans spending or holding their wealth. It is now a matter of robbing peter to pay Paul (Trading debt.)

In my opinion our current political, economic, and cultural base has gotten so out of control, and so off base that the only fix is a crash and rebirth.

Removing minimum wage now would be insane, by itself. You would also need to remove all the parasites as well, and provide an honest system of trade and currency. As it stands now, minimum wage is nothing more then a bribe in an already corrupted system.

So, if you like go ahead and raise it. It doesn't actually mean anything. Now that much of our economy is a command based economy(currency manipulation, debtm, and regulation based) everything is relative to what winners and losers are picked by those that hold the power. The kings and queens will give the plebs just enough money, bread, and circuses as long as they don't riot.... getting a little more bread still doesn't fix the problem of corruption. (And many of our politicians have the gall to use terms like inequality!)

When I hit the work force, the mnimum wage was 90 cents. That was the last time I made minimum wage. Minimum wage jobs are entry level jobs, they are just a start. If you can't do better than minimum wage work, you will need to learn how to live on minimum wage. I have three grown kids that never worked for minimum wage.

They've raised the minimum wage over and over again (mainly during election years). They tell you that it will make the wage "livable".

Guess what. The minimum wage is still not livable even after decades of raising it. It does not work. DOES. NOT. WORK.

It is an election year gimmick a fake bribe. A carrot on a string dangled in front of your nose in exchange for a vote.

In this economy there are plenty of desperate people willing to settle for $8hr job just to feed themselves. If you quit in protest, you will be easily replaced.

It does not work because when your employer pays more for labor, they raise the price of goods and services. This is called inflation. Your pay check looks bigger, but you pay more for everything, plus a higher tax rate.

Its simple really, short of fixing it with sound money we should crash the real estate down to .10 on the dollar and remove the minimum wage laws and open up the market with a floor of wages between $1 - $3 for general labor. It should be a guideline, not a law. Some would pay more and some less.

From that point we would get equilibrium with China, Russia and others and be able to compete in the global market with USA made products and this would bring most of the manufacturing back and even cause countries like germany to build factories here.

Simply raising minimum wages is not effective because prices just end up rising making the wage increase useless. Raising wages does nothing for anyone.

It would also force more smaller businesses to close and cause more layoffs.

You cant operate inside the existing system like this without more of the same, always worse.

That is what has to be done if we want to keep the existing fiat money monopoly system in place.

There are better options of course.

Stack an export tax of 100 dollars on every ton of food that leaves america.
Debt problem solved in short order.

You are wrong about removing politicians when removing minimum wage. They cant do anything in relation to money except raise the debt ceiling or spend it. This is above them. Funny thing is if they removed minimum wage laws the useless idiots would vote them out and replace them with someone who screws it all up again.

It would be better to strip the federal reserve of its charter and never repay them and jail them to boot all while replacing their fiat currency with congressional money which would be debt free.

Same goes for all countries since they are all in the same predicament.

You could not pay $16 if there were no taxes. Have you thought this through?

Lets say min wage is $10 for a small business with 5 employees.

That is an extra $12,480 per person not counting the added taxes you would pay.

Lets call it $65,000 per year.

Does a business of 6 pay that much in taxes?

Not likely. Its more realistic to think they pay very little if anything.

Its employees that pay taxes generally speaking. Business owners just reinvest and take deductions.

Your wage is not the problem the value of the dollar is. Your aiming at the wrong target, try congress not your employer.

Do what is right, and KNOW that God is leading you UPWARD ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ to a Better Life.

IF YOU ARE EMPLOYED: Speak the TRUTH on your job. ASK politely your boss and your boss's boss for what you need and what you want. Hang in there, do a good day's work, communicate truthfully and with respect with everyone around you on the job. Hang in there, but if they don't treat you nice, stay as long as you have to, then go wherever you can earn RESPECT and a BETTER WAGE.

IF YOU ARE EMPLOYED: Be proactive on your job. Communicate clearly and politely and truthfully with your coworkers and your customers and your bosses (TALL ORDER, I know). But that is life, that is work. Learn something new every day from the bosses, the customers, the coworkers. If you can do all this, NOTHING CAN REALLY KEEP YOU DOWN. Give a little, invest in your future.

If your not already doing everything above it would explain ones current state of unsatisfactory pay or lack of employment. These things should not be hard to do. This behavior should be part of your daily life at work and every other part of your life. Most people screw off as much as they can. Adults act like children at work and they will take advantage of as much as they can.

Business pay a ridiculous amount in taxes that you never see, you are misinformed.

I am self employed meaning without deductions I am at a 47% tax bracket so yes I know wtf im talking about. Lets just say if I as a business paid no taxes I could sub contract My work out and pay someone to do my job at 22 dollars an hour and I make 50% of what the client really pays for the service while creating a job and the employee is none the wiser.

OP, i guess it sucks to be you. The market rates dictates how much you earn. Perhaps , if you were not earning the minimum wage, then you can buy your own internet access at home so you can access it when you are not on your job , so you can moderate it 24/7.

Minimum wage should NOT be anybody's career plan.

Those jobs are for totally unskilled labor and entry level jobs such as for kids still living at home.

Most are highly on the job training type as well.

Anyone trying to earn a living on minimum wage needs to upgrade their skillz so as to be worth more to an employer and then they will earn more.

You ONLY hear about raising minimum wage in election years. One of the oldest tricks on the book.

This is cute, but not really a true analogy for two reasons: 1) the fact is, people work for minimum wage for years for the big companies......supplying the work that is needed. How can they be unskilled when they have done this work necessary to these companies' benefit for years? They get maybe a .10 raise per year, which keeps them in the poverty level. Yet they are ensuring their companies' survival (and profit for the shareholders) with their work.

Your turd analogy is not true also because 2) There are many companies that pay minimum wage and sell things constantly, for years, that are NOT turds--PLENTY OF PEOPLE BUYING THE PRODUCTS THAT ARE SOLD AT THESE MINIMUM WAGE COMPANIES, made possible by the work of people who are only making minimum wage.

No, you have made severl incorrect aasumptions here. It does not suck to be me. I actually enjoy my life very much. If I were earning a million a year I doubt I would choose to have internet access at home because I have other more important things to do there. And I dictate what I earn because I have my own business. I make back whatever I put into my business. And I also have a job that pays slightly above minimum wage because I have earned a raise there.
