The reason that rape is such an epidemic is that even in this country that is supposed to be so advanced and civilized, rapists know they can get away with it.

The blame the victim mentality has to stop.

But our prosecution system is totally bullshit, too.

Rape is difficult to prove unless it is violent and there is DNA evidence.

Often, it's a "he said, she said" situation.

Then, you have cops that make victims feel like they brought it on themselves.

The bottom line is that our culture makes allowances for sexual assault. We make excuses for the inexcusable. We say shit like "boys being boys" or "her skirt was too short."

It's ridiculous.

The only way to stop the epidemic is to start making examples of these people.

And to stop treating sexual subjects as taboo.

You're way more likely to be sexually assaulted by someone you know and love than a stranger.

People need to know, from a young age, what is and is not appropriate touching, that they can tell someone (and be BELIEVED) even if the abuse is coming from someone that is supposed to be protecting them.

We also need to put an end to these religious organizations keeping sexual abuse and assault allegations quiet to protect their members.
