WHY are snopes trustworthy exactly?
Are you sure you're not just another little follower that has been conditioned to think certain sources are trustworthy?There was a time when most people trusted Fox news,msnbc,cnn, and their politicians too ya know?

Because its not just one person who investigates the things its many.
They delve very thoroughly into all information that can be found.
Because they put all the info on the page before making a conclusion both for and against the claim.
You do not have to come to the same conclusion as them.

SNOPES is not a research team. They are just a very liberal husband and wife who pretend to know everything, and have gotten thousands of idiots to believe them.

They have been caught doing poor research, making stuff up, and outright lying when it comes to their political favorites. They are not to be trusted!!!

Exactly! Who backs Snopes? It's private so no one knows who backs them. Rumor has it, one supporter starts with an S and is suspected of backing an uprising in the big U recently.

You can't trust it for controversial and sensitive topics / subject matters - same goes for wikipedia...

But it's great for disproving things like Eddie Murphy's fatal snowboarding accident....

You're missing something. Snopes actually does this thing called "fact checking." They run down the source of the rumors and hoaxes. They actually call people. And they point out the obvious. Like satire sites that people - including GLP - take seriously.

It doesn't tell you what things are.
It gives the info it can find, it makes its own conclusion from it.
Make up your own mind you don't have to believe everything they conclude.

Yeah we don't hear much about Snopes anymore since they were debunked a few years ago.

Brand recognition and Appeal to Authority. Snopes (I've heard about them) are experts (they are smarter than me) so I trust them.
