It depends on the type of food dropped. If it is something sticky or moist, say a cinnamon roll with icing, which allows dirt and/or hair to stick to it, then no. But if it is something that can easily be rinsed or brushed off, then yes. Even a split-second rule couldn't protect you from that. |

[link to touch.latimes.com] Quoting: Uncle Fuck Stick The latest on the five-second rule: Food picked up after a few seconds of falling on the floor is less likely to contain bacteria than if it's left there longer. The findings are from Aston University’s School of Life and Health Sciences in Britain. A group of biology students led by microbiology professor Anthony Hilton studied the amount of E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria on different substances after they had been dropped on the floor for three to 30 seconds. They used toast, pasta, biscuits and sticky, sweet foods and dropped them on carpet, laminate and tiled surfaces. A couple seconds, though, doesn't necessarily mean you're in the clear. "Consuming food dropped on the floor still carries an infection risk as it very much depends on which bacteria are present on the floor at the time," Hilton said. "However, the findings of this study will bring some light relief to those who have bee More in link This is so lame!! THIS is what they teach in American Universities???! |

Have none of you, ever, even as a child, eaten anything off the floor. Those of you who have toddlers will know that they drop food and pick it up all the time, yet they still survive. Those of you who have picked fruit straight from the tree/bush have still survived. Your immune system will take care of it, that is what it is there for, and has done this job for ever. I do wish people would actually think about things like this before spouting off... It was the same with the "drink 8 glasses of water a day" campaign, there are nomad wandering the desert who DONT drink 8 glasses a day and they STILL survive. rant off... |
