If we are to demand that those participating in the parade observe Catholic or at least Christian beliefs and ideals, then we can't just randomly pick the gay issue to enforce.

Unmarried people living in sin may not march.
Those who do not keep the Sabbath may not march.
Those who have had an abortion may not march.
Those who have had children out of wedlock may not march.
Those--women especially--not wearing conservative clothing covering most of their body may not march.
As it is a Catholic march in honor of a Catholic saint, the women should really be wearing head coverings.
Those who regularly consume pork, shellfish, and other unclean meats may not march.

NYC Mayor di Blasio made a mistake boycotting this parade. The parade goes on, it has major network TV fulltime coverage, and nobody even mentions him.

It means Parade >> di Blasio. He is the loser by missing the opportunity to associate himself with it. As well as losing some Irish American votes in the next election.
