UNHCR estimates some 6,000 people have been rescued by the Italian Navy from over forty overcrowded boats in the Mediterranean off the shores of Sicily and Calabria in the past four days. They have disembarked in the ports of Augusta, Catania, Porto Empedocle, Messina and Pozzallo in Sicily and Roccella Jonica in Calabria. Large numbers of women and children, including newborns and unaccompanied children, were amongst those rescued. They had set off from Zwara in Libya, and many were fleeing violence, conflict and persecution. Main countries of origin include Syria, Eritrea, Somalia, Nigeria, Gambia, Mali and Senegal. Now what would be the odd of seeing Ebola mutating very soon? My best answer for you is that I don't believe in coincidences either. There is no such thing as "coincidence" in the typical way the word is presently used. The proper and historical meaning of the word is simply "events happening at the same time", and bears no implication that said events are not of common causality. Canceling your Remicade might not be such a bad idea afterall: [link to jid.oxfordjournals.org] HLA-B antigens (genes that cause autoimmune diseases like RA and Lupus) are linked to increase survival rates of Ebola. hmmm. Interesting. I am positive for HLA B27 so I'm in the catagories of either die or dont die since they didnt type mine in thise study. Me being an optimist, Ill go with dont die. Can I be Molly Ringwald in The Stand? I'm more like M O O N that spells potato tho but she was just so cool back then. Yeah, she was cool (shame she never took the Pretty Woman movie role offer; I always found Julia Roberts to be insufferable and undeserving of the "America's Sweetheart" label) I'm HLA-B27 positive too (I was diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, and Ankylosing Spondylitis). I take Humira instead of Remicade (However I'm considering switching because Humira injections are way too expensive). I'm pretty sure all types of HLA-antigens make a person resistant to Ebola. Do you have any Native American ancestry? Most people with Native American ancestry, even the smallest amount, test positive for HLA-antigens (often more than 1 of them!). Scientists think it is linked to the decimation of Native Americans by the Old World diseases, such as Smallpox and Measles. The only natives that survived were the ones that possessed the genes that made their resistant to the infections. I do have a little NA and I was seeing that a lot of the fb support groups for AS which I also have. My daughter is more than likely going to be diagnosed with JIA, she got strep a few months back and has had an immune response since. We are working on a diagnosis right now. How friggin expensive is Humira? I know the remicade is $5k an infusion, I cant imagine anything being more than that. Insane. Well it sounds like we nurse the sick if the shtf:) Sorry for derailing the thread. All this is new to me, Im still wrapping my head around it. Back to regular programing The cost of Humira (without coverage) is about 20-30 grand a year, give or take. My insurance bills the injections as costing 750 each. (Unlike Remicade infusions the injections are every 2 weeks. With my copay and deductible, it costs me a little over 10 grand a year. Humira was supposed to become generic this year; but congress conveniently passed a law extending biologic patents for 20 years - because 10 years isn't long enough for drug companies to profit from Biologics (alternatively, the drug companies could just, IDK, not spend 20 billion a year on lobbying). I wish you and your daughter the best. I know how diffcult it can be to find a good Pediatric Rheumatologist(the Shriner's Children's Hospitals are really the only Pediatric hospitals that concern themselves with Pediatric Arthritis) I developed JIA/Ankylosing Spondylitis around the age of 13 after a case of Salmonella food poisoning. Our bodies natural reaction to any serious pathogen is to go into a "Bezerk RAMPAGE" mode. I also apologize for going off topic. I do wonder though, if HLA-B antigen could create an antibody that shuts down the Ebola infection? Obviously HLA-B antigen-possessing bodies do something special, to beat the virus. Although if that is true, worse-case scenario outbreak means I might get rounded up and become a forced lab-rat for some drug company. |

They can't escape the that. The key is that they will always report the numbers with a message to suppress panic. We can listen and watch eyes open on this act accordingly. But as Battlesight mentioned. If this Jumps big time as his models predicted they won't be able to control the message for long. The central issue is the lack of trust Western agencies have when they attempt to respond to a crisis. Wrought not from irrational fears but from decades of abuse, atrocities, and exploitation, this lack of trust has rendered much of what the West does beyond its borders today increasingly impotent, and even at times counterproductive.
