I was sad when Cory Smoot died unexpectedly in November. The guitarist left behind a pregnant wife, and all I could think about was that baby, and how she’d never meet her dad.


Last night, Gwar’s Dave Brockie posted a picture of that little girl, who was born little more than a week ago to Cory’s widow, Jaime Smoot.

That is the picture Brockie posted of him holding little baby Corie.

“Here’s the most perfect baby I have ever seen,” Brockie writes online.

“ held her for like 20 minutes and she didn’t wake up or cry or nothing,” says Dave. “Thanks everybody for all of the amazing support, donations, and love in general which you guys as fans have been sending us non-stop since we lost our dear brother, Cory Smoot. And the respect with which you delivered it…to say you guys are the best is a woefully inadequate way of putting it. Hail Flattus Minimus!”

She is a cute baby. Most babies aren’t. They’re all squished together and shit. She’s a cute kid.

And then you have the Sounds of the Underground tour where the shows are outdoor — it's really fucking hot. He may have died from a mold infection from wearing the unsanitized suit. I saw a documentary where he said the suit was terribly rancid and he never cleaned it.

GWAR was one of the greatest stage acts ever created.
The themes are very 'punk rock' ie shocking for shocking's sake, with a ton of horror mixed in.
They were geniuses.
The complexity of pulling off shows like theirs' for so many years is a testament to how hard they worked on their craft. True artists.

we used to play occasional shows w/ Dave Brockie Experience - he was a cool motherfucker and anybody that wants to assume his death was due to drug use or being a junkie can go suck a dick....
