Mysterious booms in San Antonio, TX
I live on the northeast side of San Antonio. About 30 minutes ago, while watching Game of Thrones, my wife and I began to hear strange booming sounds outside. We walked out the front door and saw our next door neighbors in their yard. They said, "It's not us." It wasn't because the sounds were coming from the opposite direction.

The booms sound like a dull heartbeat, but are loud enough to be heard (and felt) indoors. The reason I say "heartbeat" is because there is a slap-back effect to them, almost as the each boom has two parts.

The sounds occur every 5 to 10 seconds, with short bursts of activity where multiple booms happen in rapid succession. Then they calm down to the previous rate.

There are no fireworks going off, no real logical explanation for this phenomenon.

Does anyone else in San Antonio hear these mysterious booms?

I guess it could be fireworks. If it is, those would be downtown, which is why I thought it couldn't be fireworks. Oh well, I guess it is after all. The sounds have subsided anyway, so doom off.

I don't know. Heard the same booms a couple days ago, thought the same. Friend said "fiesta" seems possible.

Although there's quite a few airforce bases here...

That's FT SAM Army Base..firing their canon..to help open Fiesta..the 18 day drunk. I hate when they do that, and it wasn't all fireworks, looked like dummy rounds to me. Strait heart attack, everytime they do it. Thought this time was a military exercise going on over there.

Heard them also. First thought was Fiesta but I didn't think the sound would carry all the way from downtown. Second thought was the soccer game, the previous night after they won there was a large firework display. Then I thought about Fort Sam Cannons. Called my father who lives a street over and we both agreed it had to be the cannons.

There were Fireworks on Ft Sam Houston that started at 9 last night. That is the only thing we can link the sounds to. We live 4 miles from Ft Sam and we heard the same sound you did.

Re: Mysterious booms in San Antonio, TX
I heard 2 big booms outside my house lastnight after 1am. Im on the other side of the county so its unrelated to you.
Right after the booms, I knew it was aliens so I grabbed my tinfoil hat and my packed bag. lool
In reality it was either dicks with fireworks, or an electrical box blowing up.

Come onnnnnnnn. Noises happen. Doesnt mean aliens, angels, demons, ghosts or doom.
The slap back you heard was just that. It was one sound reverberating (slapping back) off of other surfaces. Happens every time sounds are made when there is something to reflect off of.

I used to live in that area. It was fairly common for us to hear explosions coming from Camp Bullis. Terrified me the first time I heard them.

Sometimes in the right weather conditions you can hear the cannons from Fort Sam fire at night. The sound can carry a long ways.
