Light-absorbing glow-in-the-dark road markings have replaced streetlights on a 500m (0.3 mile) stretch of a highway in the Netherlands; this is just a test, and if everything goes alright, then authorities will implement them over longer and longer sections. TheGasMan II User ID: 55036267 United States 04/16/2014 02:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No kidding! This is the first I heard about this. It would be interesting to have glow in the dark street lines! I'm not a huge fan of driving at night, but this would make it easier. [link to www.usatoday.com] To a point anyway. We could have to do this. If it's raining or due to rain will there be water drops glowing on the road? I think it's pretty cool ~*Ride the Wave*~ |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 56811273 United Kingdom 04/16/2014 02:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I would love to see these glow in dark ones, I'd bet they would be as good if not better than proper cats, for one thing you would not have to drive over them to clean them The original ones where glass balls in a brass tube with a rubber edge, the tube would fill with water and the glass ball depressed into the tube when you drove over them cleaning them, such an elegant and simple design to be replaced by a little bit of crappy reflective plastic, so I for one can't wait to see glow in the dark roads.. |

But unfortunately, 20 years away USA time. Simple27 (OP) User ID: 51550563 United States 04/16/2014 02:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Brilliant, I still remember the original "cats eyes" road studs from when I started driving, they actually worked tends times better when compared to todays reflective studs that have replaced them, driving down a road and being able to see far into the distance made driving so much nicer at night.. I suppose it could be extremely distracting for even some sober drivers. ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

Simple27 (OP) User ID: 51550563 United States 04/16/2014 02:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm concerned about how our brain, especially at night and when we are more tired, will work on such a road. My concern is that drivers will lean towards hugging the lines. Not only that, some drowsy drivers may only focus on the line. And not what is in the road in front of them. Quoting: 2012Portal You're right and I didn't even think of this until the AC above joked about trippin'. But this could certainly be an issue. I guess I'm looking at it like this...there are a ton of distractions in our current, daily lives while we are on the road driving. Dip shits are gonna dip shit whether their roads are glowing or their BFF sent them a text message (unfortunately). So I would support this. ~*Ride the Wave*~ |
