Glow-in-the-dark roads make debut in Netherlands
They not only look awesome, but they may actually save a lot of power. Light-absorbing glow-in-the-dark road markings have replaced streetlights on a 500m (0.3 mile) stretch of a highway in the Netherlands; this is just a test, and if everything goes alright, then authorities will implement them over longer and longer sections.

There has been talk about magnetic sensors in the roads here.

No kidding!

This is the first I heard about this. It would be interesting to have glow in the dark street lines! I'm not a huge fan of driving at night, but this would make it easier. hf

Brilliant, I still remember the original "cats eyes" road studs from when I started driving, they actually worked tends times better when compared to todays reflective studs that have replaced them, driving down a road and being able to see far into the distance made driving so much nicer at night..

I would love to see these glow in dark ones, I'd bet they would be as good if not better than proper cats, for one thing you would not have to drive over them to clean them tounge

The original ones where glass balls in a brass tube with a rubber edge, the tube would fill with water and the glass ball depressed into the tube when you drove over them cleaning them, such an elegant and simple design to be replaced by a little bit of crappy reflective plastic, so I for one can't wait to see glow in the dark roads..

If that is all legit, it is very sweet tech.

But unfortunately, 20 years away USA time.

You raise a good point actually...imagine all the drunk drivers on the road as it is glowing with lines and symbols...hmmm. I suppose it could be extremely distracting for even some sober drivers.

I'm concerned about how our brain, especially at night and when we are more tired, will work on such a road. My concern is that drivers will lean towards hugging the lines. Not only that, some drowsy drivers may only focus on the line. And not what is in the road in front of them.

You're right and I didn't even think of this until the AC above joked about trippin'. But this could certainly be an issue.

I guess I'm looking at it like this...there are a ton of distractions in our current, daily lives while we are on the road driving. Dip shits are gonna dip shit whether their roads are glowing or their BFF sent them a text message (unfortunately). So I would support this. hf

I wanna Tron cycle!

Ladies would dig me if I had that thing. I'd wear a red scarf flapping in the wind while reading passages from e.e. cummings.
