MaryJane9999 User ID: 24289757 ![]() 04/16/2014 01:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "The US is an oligarchy, study concludes" Quoting: Veranidae "Report by researchers from Princeton and Northwestern universities suggests that US political system serves special interest organisations, instead of voters" [link to www.telegraph.co.uk] [link to www.princeton.edu] "The US government does not represent the interests of the majority of the country's citizens, but is instead ruled by those of the rich and powerful, a new study from Princeton and Northwestern Universities has concluded." "After sifting through nearly 1,800 US policies enacted in that period and comparing them to the expressed preferences of average Americans (50th percentile of income), affluent Americans (90th percentile) and large special interests groups, researchers concluded that the United States is dominated by its economic elite." "The peer-reviewed study, which will be taught at these universities in September, says: 'The central point that emerges from our research is that economic elites and organised groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on US government policy, while mass-based interest groups and average citizens have little or no independent influence.' " Now, while I completely agree the values and interests of the average American citizen are hardly represented by politicians in Washington (or even at the state level more often than not), and I'm grateful a reasonably-mainstream media outlet would pick this up, I'm also very suspicious that there's a bit of mercenary motive here. The universities involved intend to teach this peer-reviewed study? To what end? In support of our intended democratic republic or in support a different form of democracy altogether? When people have the choice to chose... they chose wrong... |

I'm questioning if this is somehow supposed to legitimize our condition. If this is designed to affirm that we have crossed a rubicon, and we're simply supposed to accept it. Or will this study be used to soft-sell us on our actual form of government. OR, is someone trying to say, "Look, there's no point in lamenting a democratic republic, because it hasn't existed for years. But consider how we could fight the oligarchy by supporting (X)." |

Banking and government are rather the same. Let's not even get to the black budget, estimated to be in the tens of trillions. [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] |

Some great quotes here. Samuel Clemens...the best! "The single most exciting thing you encounter in government is competence, because it's so rare." — Daniel Patrick Moynihan (1976) "What this country needs are more unemployed politicians." — Edward Langley "There's never been a good government." — Emma Goldman "We must have government, but we must watch them like a hawk." — Millicent Fenwick (1983) "Reader, suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself." — Mark Twain "There is no distinctly native American criminal class save Congress." — Mark Twain "Talk is cheap - except when Congress does it." — Cullen Hightower "A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves." — Edward R. Murrow |

Let's not even get to the black budget, estimated to be in the tens of trillions. [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] Irony: our distinguished US Senator Kelly Ayotte is pontificating about the problematic increase in Heroin use here in NH while compliments of the US government security provided in Afghanistan, Opium is being harvested in record amounts. Target markets are where? Net value to those involved is what? If I had to guess, the reason the Sinaloa Cartel is so powerful here in NH and throughout the US is because of the investment they have in our politicians. Few people understand what it costs the CIA to dictate foreign policy. What a damned mess. How long does it take before the fascist-led oligarchy collapses under its own weight? |
