screaming kids
Is it my imagination or wherever I go I hear small children screaming.....
it's like nobody teaches their children self control anymore....at the park there are kids running and screaming everywhere of every age...while their parents/guardians do and say ABSOLUTELY NOTHING....like it's completely normal for
people to act like they are on fire....
sound like they are on fire....
blood-curling screams, whether they are happy or sad....
wth is going on?
I am in my 40s; I don't think I am imagining that they are getting louder every year. Whatever happened to people respecting another's space and peace and quiet? My neighbors are a perfect example of this...
how exactly does one just go about one's normal business when their children are screaming to the top of their lungs, glass breaking all around them? LOL.
They MUST be on Xanax 24/7 or something

Re: screaming kids
I bet you're the kind of person who, when a kid kicks a ball into your garden, you run and grab it, and then burn it.

When we were kids, people had coal fires, and this one old woman used to grab all our footballs and burn 'em. We thought she was a witch. We lost many a ball to her.

...or do you just stab it with a knife instead when you grab it?

Hate to break it to you, but I think you are turning into a grumpy old grouch.

Kids have ALWAYS screamed -- although it does seem to me that you are correct in noticing that more parents "turn a deaf ear" (and eye!) to their kids' misbehavior than they have in previous generations. Of course, there are many, MANY exceptions to this!!!

Re: screaming kids
no, I wouldn't knife or burn a kid's ball. LOL
I have six children myself, ages 7-24...
they might scream from being startled by something, or
when they get a little rowdy, like at the park, but only
briefly....they don't use it as a regular form of torture like these other kids do.
What gets me is even if the kids are obviously bothering people, the parents do nothing...I've seen this sort of thing out to eat also.
It's like people just don't have respect for each other anymore. I know there are no written rules for this or anything, but decency should be enough to drive a parent/guardian to control this

I must be lucky because I cannot even recall the last time I heard a screaming child, it's been that long. Then again, I don't spend a lot of time in public settings either....

okay, you are all at least a little bit right...
it's not just in public, it's mostly at home...
I live in a duplex, can hear kids screaming bloody
murder twenty four hours a day...
the parents do nothing...
then when my teens make the slightest noise upstairs (where their rooms are), the neighbors get angry and knock on the walls...these kids are trying to get adult attention, I believe...something....you can sometimes hear the adults talking and such, (in Spanish) like everything is normal...meanwhile there are four or five kids of different ages screaming so loud you want to tear your hair out...how can they just ignore it?

I know.....the sound of kids having a melt down in store gets annoying.

But a parent that I know said to look at it this way.....maybe the kid who is having a meltdown is autistic & is just overwhelmed at the moment.

The risk far outweighs any benefit as the risk will vary from child to child.

Re: screaming kids
Whenever my kids were on the verge of a meltdown, I'd just take their hand and start moving back toward the car, saying,"That's it then. We are going home. No one wants to hear you crying." That would usually shut them up quick, especially if it was a place they wanted to be.

Yes, my neighbor's kids are like this. The oldest one who is almost 4 didn't speak for over two years, only screeched, and the baby, maybe a year and a half I think had colic, but she will let loose over anything and scream and cry and wail.

She's a stay at home mom and in the evenings when I hear these kid's screeching and crying all she does is yell at them to stop. Of course that works like a charm. Sheesh.

This is different from kids playing outside kind of screaming and yelling. Although, maybe I am turning into a grouchy person, but I don't remember my kids being loud like that when they were little, and they knew what inside voices were.

I feel your pain.

But yes, it does seem to be that parents don't do anything about it. It is like they are oblivious. I see it at work as well, and the building in which I work is alot of tile and just walls, no carpet and it echoes which is way worse.

I wonder sometimes if it isn't just the attitude that you don't spank kids, that putting them in time out teaches them a lesson, and you can't raise your voice to them or any other sort of discipine as you might "scar them for life".

And no, it is not a Mexican thing...it's an all color/race lazy parent thing.

an air horn at 145db will do wonders for waking kids and their parents up. Try it sometime, you'll get everyone and I do mean everyone's immediate attention. Less than $20.00 bucks at Walmart. hf

Knock on their door bring some chocolates also, ask if they could turn down the screaming, someone could think the house was on fire, if it were in the future their screaming would be used up no one would lift a eyebrow

I have two children and neither of them EVER screamed in public. In fact, I can't remember them screaming, except for gleeful noises in our yard during play.

They behaved, and yes, these children who are screaming in public -- are obnoxious and haven't been taught proper behavior. They and their parents have a very serious problem. And I'm not a grumpy old grouch.

Me again. Also, I had three brothers and the four of us
NEVER EVER screamed in public or at home. I can't remember that any of us ever wanted to, but had we done so, we'd have gotten a swift spanking on the bottom. That never happened---when I was growing up, I cannot remember any kids screaming, except for happy "yells " or "screams" while playing There were some who screamed when I was raising my children, but it is increasingly worse. No discipline, I assume is the problem. My children were happy and content---they had no reason for screaming. And in my childhood, we had no reason for screaming----had less stuff, but we were just a more contented, busy generation We never got bored either, like kids now. Bored people are boring. We always kept busy.
