“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6
...and when Jesus talks about life he means 'an everlasting life'. After he rose from the dead he spent a time (50days) drinking and eating with his mates. That's why early Christians were so willing to be martyred. They no longer feared death but regarded it as a passage to a better life.
