Had similar issue with husband who lost job and got depressed.

He kicked into high gear for 2 reasons. One was he had bill obligations and ran out of savings. Two I made a Home repair, improvements, and desires list (most of which we had talked about already). Putting a list of things we needed but couldn't afford and sacrifices being made for lack of extra income painted a good picture and incentive.

Need to work with her desires and things that if she loves you would make you happy. Work together for a common goal, maybe a nicer house or luxury vacation if she works again. Women think differently and have "nesting" instincts usually. Keep that in mind :)

Should really talk to her about the kids thing, and if there's a massive difference there, you need help or out.

I don't recommend it, but I've known men to put most of their money into savings (secretly) and cut the budget, force wife into work this way. Retirement or college funds are valid reasons that might work openly.
