The best WW2 movie you've seen? I watched the Pianist and it was really good. | |

The Big Red One is also good, as is Schindler's list and Saving Private Ryan. And Inglorious Bastards. Where Eagles Dare is pretty good. Not a movie, but I always thought the TV show Combat! was awesome. |
Eggcellent Re-Instate Smith-Mundt! User ID: 56099813 ![]() 04/23/2014 09:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "The Guns Of Navarone". Had to think for awhile to get the right title, I always called it "The Guns Of Minestrone"! Actually, this would be a good movie to watch for anyone who has the feeling that we may be fighting a huge, better-equipped, bureaucratic entity. It reinforces the concepts of "Loose Lips Sink Ships" and "Don't Trust Anyone But Yourself, and Maybe Not Even Yourself"!! Not a movie, but I always thought the TV show Combat! was awesome. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17110902 Well, if we're talking TV series, I'd vote for "Baa Baa Black Sheep" (Later called "Black Sheep Squadron"). WW2 in the Pacific Theatre. Two more movies which I always thought were good because of their being so suspenseful are "The Man Who Never Was" and "Eye Of The Needle" (starring Donald Sutherland, made in 1981). Both are Spy/Counterspy type movies if you're looking for suspense rather than shoot-em-ups. Also, the Longest Day, the Dirty Dozen, Battle of Britain, Run Silent Run Deep, Patton, Tora Tora Tora...there are so many. Some others that are not so serious would be Father Goose, Operation Petticoat, and Mister Roberts. As for realism, though, I would probably say Saving Private Ryan and the Band of Brothers series. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 49039572 ![]() 04/23/2014 09:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Band of Brothers, Battle of the Bulge, A Bridge too far, Stalingrad, Tora Tora Tora, The Dirty Dozen, The Bridge over River Kwai, Flags of our Fathers, there are all sorts of good ones. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27288735 And don't forget that "A Bridge Too Far" and "The Longest Day" had real German speaking actors in it, "Battle of the Bulge" had also real Germans in it I believe. It really adds up to the authenticity of the movie. |
