Antivirus software Is 'Dead' Says Norton Software Boss
Antivirus software is "dead" according to an executive at the firm that pioneered it.

Symantec, which developed software to protect computers from hackers 25 years ago, says it no longer thinks of antivirus as a "moneymaker in any way".

Brian Dye, senior vice president for information security, said software only catches around 45% of malware attacks because hackers are increasingly sophisticated.

He said the company is now moving its business towards "detecting and responding" to attacks, rather than simply trying to protect against them.

It's not a moneymaker for Symantec, because everyone knows their product is shit.

Ask Kaspersky or Eset if antivirus is dead.

Norton is a virus. My son has done data recovery for over 6yrs and he hates Norton. Anything you need a special "toolkit" to completely remove is not something I want.

the whole industry is just some stupid scam.

you really think it's that hard to stop some schmuck from hacking your computers? It's not.

Truth is there is no way anyone could install a virus on windows 3.1, the first versions of windows, there was no dumbass registry for the things to hide in.

If there was a program running in the old windows, you just deleted it. they would have to make it so these programs can control your computers.

They are pissed off that they might not be able to retire to Dubai.
They can't stand that some antivirus is free and open source.
All they want is to extort money from you, for being like a bouncer at the door.
