Two people charged with throwing missiles for throwing paper and a cassette tape at White House
Just when you thought that the government couldn't possibly waste any more money or resources persecuting citizens or charging them with petty, arbitrary crimes, you read something asinine like this.

Federal charges for two citizens, one who threw some paper and another who threw a cassette tape, over the White House fence yesterday.

They charged them with throwing missiles or other objects.

LOL

Missiles.

I know the technical definition of a missile, but seriously? Because the semantics here are really going to make them look a lot more threatening than they are.

My favorite memory of the white house -- and I used to work across the street and walk by it every day -- was that one day this guy in a jogging outfit ran by me just as I was in front of the white house gate, where the secret service has a guard booth.

He was carrying a leather satchel over his shoulder -- which was out of character for a guy jogging so he caught my attention.

Anyway, he runs up to the guard station and tells the uniformed Secret Service guy 'I AM THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!'

Then he takes off running down the street again.

He turned the corner and was running down the side street next to the White House and I was waiting to see them take him down. Instead, another agent stepped out of a tunnel entrance, opened the gate -- and let the guy in.

He must have been delivering documents... or pizza... or something.

I would not suggest that any of you try that though. The outcome is unlikely to suit you.
Have a nice day = GFY. GFY = Go Fuck Yourself. If this offends you then have a nice day.

If it was government issued then that's fine, they were just returning the items to the government

How can a cassette tape be offensive?

...unless it's got rap music on it...then yeah

I remember finding that term 'Missiles' when researching my city's laws on using a pellet/bb gun. I found a law said something along the lines of "launching missiles into the street"...I am assuming that means it's an offense to throw rocks/paper wads/etc into the street. It's likely part of Agenda 21...making just about anything they want into a crime.

Yeah, I looked it up.

It's anything thrown or launched with force at a target.

WTF.

I mean, that's still stretching it pretty far considering the distance from the fence to the White House - no one throwing paper or a cassette with their hand 'at the White House' from the fence has a snowball's chance in hell of hitting it.

I mean, could they charge me with throwing a missile at the White House if I chuck something toward the East with angry intent? I have as much chance of hitting the White House with a cassette tape from my porch as that dude did throwing it over the fence.

How dumb.

This is very true.

They were lucky their 'missiles' weren't 'mistaken' for concealed weapons resulting in their immediate execution.

Sad state of affairs when security guards have the right to invalidate the Constitution by playing judge, jury and executioner at their own whims.

Gotta love (not) subjective interpretation/definitions.

Sounds like the same crap that goes on in the schools, for instance:

1) Student jams, thus breaking, a plastic stapler and gets charged with vandalism;

2) Student tells another student to "go to hell" and gets suspended for making a death threat.

true story..

Elementary school student sticks tongue out at classmate, suspended for sexual harassment for 'simulating oral sex.'

Also true.

Kids make guns with fingers, suspended for threatening others with weapon.

Kids shot and killed by cops for 'brandishing' plastic guns with little orange caps on the ends of the barrels.

Yeah, our society is made much safer with all of these asinine laws.
