The reason for all of societies ills is the food surplus

One day disaster will strike and will make pesticides disappear and with it the ability to transport that food from continent to continent. A long overdue correction prevented by cheap oil is coming. Historically a food surplus is rare because people always breed more than the earth is able to provide food to that species. In the correction that is coming the big predators always disappear. People that can adapt fast and produce food will survive. The system is set up for a mass die off of our species. Endless growth does not exist in natural systems. Endless growth will consume the host (Earth) like cancer. The institutions will be the last to recognize the situation. Life is simply too good as a career tax parasite. When that system disappears the institutions will go after us. They all are armed to the teeth now but will not survive because of lack of food that has to be provided on a grand scale.
