For decades we’ve been subjected to constant propaganda that government is inefficient, bureaucratic and expensive. We’re told that the answer is to “privatize,” or “outsource” government functions to private businesses and they will do things more efficiently and everyone comes out ahead. As a result we have experienced decades of privatization of government functions.

So how has this wave of privatization worked out? Has privatization saved taxpayers money and improved services to citizens? Simple answer: of course not. If a company can make a profit doing something the government had been doing, it means that we’re losing out one way or another. It’s simple math. And the result of falling for the privatization scam is that taxpayers have been fleeced, services to citizens have been cut way back and communities have been made poorer. But the companies that convinced governments to hand over public functions have gotten rich off of the deal. How is this a surprise?

Here are five privatization horror stories, where government outsourcing has gone terribly wrong. (Or maybe you’d say it has gone terribly right if you are one of the companies getting the taxpayer dollars.)

Wake up guys, NEITHER side is your friend, or what they want to appear to be.

But other than that, the problem with the VA is NOT that there are inadequate facilities or lack of people, the biggest issue is that most VA Doctors only see a handful of patients per day. If they were to actually WORK at the job instead of just show up collect their check and go play golf, this issue wouldn't be a problem...

I am a Vet, the VA has been trying to kill me since 1996. You see there is a secret list alright for individual Vet. This is not a right or left issue this is a military superfund site issue which is really killing the Vets.

So blame the chemical companies.

The FACILITIES to care for these Vets exist, they simply aren't on the government's payroll.

Saying that there is no place to treat these vets is like saying that we have homeless people because there aren't enough houses.

There are PLENTY of houses, but you've got to have the $$$ if you want a roof over your head.

This is a bureaucracy issue, pure and simple.

Sure, we could use more medical care facilities, it would improve efficiency, but there is no reason that these people aren't being properly cared for in the interim.

The government needs to be working with the private sector to ensure that all vets are getting the care they need.

Indeed, moving Veteran care into the private sector could CREATE jobs and boost the economy while ensuring that our Vets don't go without needed care.

If they need to fund this, they can pull the money from some of their dope running operations.

I'm going to guess that the Democrats designed that bill in such a way that they knew the GOP couldn't support it and that they could use the rejection to score some cheap political points.

Both sides use cheap ass tactics like this all the time.
