GOP votes 'no' to build 27 new VA hospitals and expand veterans' health care | |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1313288 United States 05/25/2014 10:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A vote was called in the United States Senate to approve a $24 billion bill to expand federal health care and education programs for veterans. As Reuters points out, the bill would have funded the creation of 27 much needed VA hospitals and medical facilities. Quoting: CountryPumpkin "Supporters said the measure would have brought the most significant changes in decades to U.S. veterans' programs. For example, it called for 27 new medical facilities to help a healthcare system that is strained by veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars." With 60 votes needed to pass the bill, it was shut down in partisan fashion by a vote of 56-41. All but four of the 45 Senate Republicans voted no on the bill and it was quickly forgotten. Republicans attempted to attach an amendment to the bill for increased sanctions on Iran, but there was no movement by the Democrats. [link to www.examiner.com] Here is the thing, this is not the only thing republicans have pushed against veteran benefits. They voted against the veteran's job bill, against building more hospitals, against increase funding, trying to take away disability rights of vets. Hypocrites... You are true demoralized fool! It is people like yourself that is the problem with this Country. You fools just don't get it and you never will. Beyond pathetic! |

The privatization scam: Five government outsourcing horror stories For decades we’ve been subjected to constant propaganda that government is inefficient, bureaucratic and expensive. We’re told that the answer is to “privatize,” or “outsource” government functions to private businesses and they will do things more efficiently and everyone comes out ahead. As a result we have experienced decades of privatization of government functions. So how has this wave of privatization worked out? Has privatization saved taxpayers money and improved services to citizens? Simple answer: of course not. If a company can make a profit doing something the government had been doing, it means that we’re losing out one way or another. It’s simple math. And the result of falling for the privatization scam is that taxpayers have been fleeced, services to citizens have been cut way back and communities have been made poorer. But the companies that convinced governments to hand over public functions have gotten rich off of the deal. How is this a surprise? Here are five privatization horror stories, where government outsourcing has gone terribly wrong. (Or maybe you’d say it has gone terribly right if you are one of the companies getting the taxpayer dollars.) Em18966 User ID: 57844656 United States 05/26/2014 06:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Do you know how many HOSPITALS there are in this country, how many medical facilities and Dr.'s offices? Quoting: Em18966 Maybe instead of building more VA's, we need to change the way we take care of our vets and guarantee their medical coverage at ANY facility. Let's cut through the red tape and not add to the deficit. Give our vets the same coverage that our politicians enjoy. Or better. Take care of these ladies and gentlemen properly. Stop making excuses. We don't need 27 new VA Hospitals to take care of our vets. We need to be taking care of our vets right, immediately. What's ridiculous is that vets have to dick around with the VA in the first place. Get them taken care of and taken care of right. The crux of the problem is that there are too many vets and not enough health facilities.... It doesn't matter the number of hospitals there are now...there are not enough. Does that make sense to you? Let me spell it out.... There are more veterans than facilities. The FACILITIES to care for these Vets exist, they simply aren't on the government's payroll. Saying that there is no place to treat these vets is like saying that we have homeless people because there aren't enough houses. There are PLENTY of houses, but you've got to have the $$$ if you want a roof over your head. This is a bureaucracy issue, pure and simple. Sure, we could use more medical care facilities, it would improve efficiency, but there is no reason that these people aren't being properly cared for in the interim. The government needs to be working with the private sector to ensure that all vets are getting the care they need. Indeed, moving Veteran care into the private sector could CREATE jobs and boost the economy while ensuring that our Vets don't go without needed care. If they need to fund this, they can pull the money from some of their dope running operations. |
