Quoting: Éireann Well, besides smart assed comments, if you get what is happening by all means PLEASE do tell. Otherwise, we'll just assume that not paying any governmental fee, no matter what the fee is, and then complaining about the lack of evidence will result in incarceration seems plausible at this point in the NWO agenda. You have never been to detroit have you.... I was born there... if it got hit tomorrow with a 20 kiloton nuke it would be a blessing... Ok, so it's in some major disrepair, but there are people there who would need to be relocated. Either way, Detroit USA was the seat of the industrial revolution. The people there machined the tools that built the USA and made her into the global superpower she is today (ok...given she isn't as super), but the history remains. There needs to be another solution to this problem besides "hiding" it and hoping that whatever caused her downfall won't happen elsewhere. Detroit already looks like a nuke went off in some places. Alot of places, actually. But there are also alot of good people here, fighting a losing battle, and we know it. It's hard to leave a city you love, myself included. But Ilitch and other businesses, sports stadiums, are YEARS behind on payments, owing 10's if not hundreds of thousands of back taxes and back bills. They aren't messing with those guys though...this is a test I think. See how apeshit people will go when they get squeezed. Our economy collapsed here years before everyone else did. Many reasons, but primarily outsourcing the auto industry and then Detroit had a gangster for a Mayor who I think is now in prison. Kwame Kilpatrick. And before that even Coleman Young. Terrible management. Raided the pensions, that's why the city filed for bankrupcy, which is still being debated in the courts. Shutting off water for a 60 day delinqency is extreme. I want to know whats up with this detention experiment more than anything. What happens in Detroit will happen everywhere else next. That's why we need eyes on this. ^^ THIS ^^ You're a true blessing, RadChick. Not too many people would stick with something once it's no longer shiny. Blessed are the dreamers for they will see a new heaven and new earth :D Eireann~ I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. - Galatians 2:20 |
RadChick (OP) User ID: 53635335 United States 05/29/2014 01:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | But why are they protesting? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2362947 How many shut off notices does it take to be considered a warning? Is the population of Detroit so used to getting what they want for free that when the free stuff stops, they take to the streets? I don't normally land on the side of the STATE but, in this case, I don't see a problem sweeping the streets of garbage and late water bills that have not been paid. Sad to think this is a city in the USA. You have never been 60 days late on a bill? Lucky you. My utilities are ruthless. you have a strict 10 day grace period and then it's shut off time.. cry, cry and beg they won't turn it back on until it's PAID plus reconnection charges where they fleece you. If they should make exceptions for Detroiters to keep free utilities why not anyone else? Portland, Oregon is having a very tough time so is everywhere else in the USA....Free untilities for us all? That would be great as I'm now unemployed and summer in Florida is like winter in Detroit.... Who will pay my 500 dollar electic bill? No they shouldn't make exceptions. But these people are saying they had no notice, when they asked the water department they wouldn't give them proof. There is a procedure that should be followed, don't you agree? I don't know if there exaggerations being made on the part of the detainees, it is impossible to get anymore info on this. That's why I posted. I agree...you gotta pay your bills. But there is much more that seems to be going on here. When they asked, they were not shown proof. The article shows what happened to one lady...jail for asking questions! Having lived through SHTF myself I can tell you when you lose a job, or have an injury at work, help is based on your last W-2. So if you had a good job you have to wait 12 months before you can get any assistance. My kids and I lived for a year with no food except potatoes and bread. Our furnace broke, we went through 2 Michigan winters with NO HEAT. I had overpaid my mortgage to finish it in 10 years instead of 30, and I was 18 months from paying it off entirely. The bank still took it, even though I was YEARS ahead on payments. When they found out I finally won my lawsuit against my employer (which took over 2 years) they said "Oh, you can have your house back." I told them to shove it. When I tried to get food and utility assistance because we had no income, they looked at my W-2 from the year before and said "you don't qualify" I tried to get food from food banks, they didn't have any! It sucked, alot. I don't even know how we lived through it. Luckily I had 2 cars I sold on craigslist to pay the 55,000 bill for back surgery, once my insurance got cancelled too. You never think it will happen to you, but when it does, help is not as easy as everyone thinks. Quoting: RadChick MASS WATER SHUT-OFFS, MASS INCARCERATION AT MOUND ROAD PRISON FOR PROTESTERS Posted on 05/28/2014 by Diane Bukowski The State of Michigan’s fascist iron glove is pounding on Detroiters, using mass water shut-offs without notice, and mass concentration camp imprisonment at the Mound Road state facility. There, hundreds are locked into filthy holding rooms without sanitation, proper food, water and medical care, guarded by Michigan Department of Corrections personnel. That is the horrendous story Charity Hicks told VOD, after her arrest during mass water shut-offs in her east-side neighborhood near Osborn High School. On May 23, members of the People’s Water Board, Moratorium NOW! and others protested the shut-offs outside the Detroit Water Board building as part of a series of weekly “Freedom Fridays.” “The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) is initiating this project to reduce DWSD’s delinquent water accounts,” DWSD Director Sue McCormick said in a letter to the Board. “As part of the overall plan to increase DWSD’s revenue collection, the Department will increase its efforts of water shut-offs for customers with a 60-day or more past-due balance. . . This project will target approximately 70,000 residential accounts throughout the City of Detroit over a period of two (2) years.” Hicks said the contractor got mad when she asked to see the termination orders for herself and her neighbors. “He told me they are on the computer and he couldn’t produce them,” Hicks said. “They are shutting people off with no procedures and no due process, despite the critical importance of the water infrastructure. The guy went to his car to look up the orders I thought, and I followed him so he could show me on the computer. I was leaning up slightly into the car to see, and all of a sudden he peeled off, hitting me and causing me to fall down and hurt my hip and gash my foot, which began bleeding. He didn’t say get back, and I just got discombobulated and fell down.” Hicks said a one-gallon red plastic gas container fell off the back of his truck when he hit a bump in the road. She then called 911 to report that she had been assaulted. “The police came, looked at my foot, and then told me they were going to charge me with felonious larceny for stealing city equipment. They said if they were going to believe anybody, it would be the city. All of a sudden, I became the perpetrator.” Hicks said she had hurriedly dressed and was virtually naked, with no shoes, no socks, no underwear, no keys or other belongings. She said the two officers, who were white, arrested her in front of her home, did not read her her rights, then made racist remarks to her as they drove her to the Mound Road facility. “They were completely racist, disrespectful and arrogant,” Hicks said. “They told me I seemed to be pretty articulate, asked how many degrees I had, and said it was clear that I wasn’t a typical Detroiter. They said they were ‘good ‘ol boys’ and kept playing country music on the radio.” - See more at: [link to voiceofdetroit.net] More at link about holding cell conditions...this sounds bad. RadChick (OP) User ID: 53635335 United States 05/29/2014 02:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This could get really ugly. Water cut-offs in Detroit a violation of human rights By Maude Barlow May 27, 2014 From the article...But the people of Detroit face another sinister enemy. Every day, thousands of them, in a city that is situated right by a body of water carrying one fifth of the world’s water supply, are having their ‎water ruthlessly cut off by men working for the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department. Most of the residents are African American and two thirds of the cut offs involve children, which means that in some cases, child welfare authorities are moving in to remove children from their homes as it is a requirement that there be working utilities in all homes housing children. People are given no warning and no time to fill buckets, sinks and tubs. Sick people are left without running water and running toilets. People recovering from surgery cannot wash and change bandages. Children cannot bathe and parents cannot cook. Is this a small number of victims? No. The water department has decreed that it will turn the water off to all 120,000 residences that owe ‎it money by the end of the summer although it has made no such threat to the many corporations and institutions that are in arrears on their bills as well. How did it come to this? Detroit is a victim of decades of market driven neoliberal policy that put business and profit ahead of public good. Social security programs have been slashed and their delivery privatized. Investment in essential infrastructure has been slashed. Every winter, hundreds of aging pipes spew water from leaks and the water has not been turned off in thousands of abandoned houses and boarded up businesses where frozen pipes also lose huge amounts of water. With globalization and the hollowing out of the once mighty auto industry, wealth and businesses fled to he suburbs, draining ‎the city of its tax base and the water department of its revenues. (There are one million fewer people living in Detroit than there were in the 1950s.)
