Three days without water and you die. If it's hot and you're active you can cut that number in half or more. Cut off water and prevent proper sewage disposal, and hygene, and you create a potentialy massive public health problem - welcome back to the 19th century. Throw in no due process, no transparency, massive unemployment and poverty, and you've got Hunger Games 2014, with a little seige of Leningrad thrown in for heightened viewer interest and excitement. Then you have Chinese money waiting in the wings, with no doudt massive insider land/trading deals, and the deliberate giving up of soverignity to a potentially hostile state, along with the precedent setting nature of the whole exercise, and it is likely that this is what much of the rest of the USA has to look forward to in the not too distant future. Assuming that the water bills are really not getting paid, something that may or may not be accurate, the problem is not that the bills arn't getting paid, but that people do not have the funds to pay for basic necessities.

That's what happens when you don't pay your bill.. Now, yes, I do believe water is a basic right.. But if you are going to buy it from someone and allow them to put a meter on your house, well, then you had better pay your fucking bill..

A shutoff notice is taped to the front door of the historic building for failure to pay its bills. The DTE Energy posting says electric and natural-gas service will be disconnected on or after Sunday unless the account is made current.

“We’re not not paying bills. It’s trying to be timely with the bills,” said Jimmy Romeo, the Masonic’s director of events. “The bill will be paid in the allotted time.”

He said that the private event, which is next on the Masonic calendar, will go on as scheduled tonight.

It takes $3,000 a day to run the Masonic, he added.

According to Romeo, the Detroit Masonic Theater Company who runs the entertainment venue for the Masons inherited the outstanding bills when it took over management of the landmark.

Olympia Entertainment oversaw the Masonic until 2010.

The Ilitch-owned firm disagreed with Romeo, saying in a statement, “The Masonic Temple is a historic jewel in our community and when Olympia Entertainment stepped in back in 2007 to manage the venue, we invested significantly in the operations of the facility, including paying off and restructuring substantial debt on behalf of the non-profit Masonic Temple Association. When our lease agreement with the Masonic Temple Association ended in 2010, all of Olympia's financial responsibilities were current."

DTE Energy said in a written statement that the Masonic Temple has “accrued a substantial unpaid balance and attempts to reach a workable payment arrangement with the facility’s management have been unsuccessful … Facility management has not complied with a recent agreement for partial payment that would prevent shutoff. We continue to talk with the management team.”

The utility also acknowledged the important role the theater plays in Detroit and the surrounding region.

“We recognize the iconic status that the Masonic Temple holds in the community and we regret that a shutoff may be necessary, but in fairness to all of our customers we cannot continue to provide utility services without payment.”

Standing near the nearly-vacant entrance to the theater, Romeo listed some of the famous acts who’ve performed at the masonic over the years, including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who and the Rolling Stones.

The storied venue is used for weddings along with performances, but Romeo wondered if this threatened utility shut-off will scare away potential brides and concert promoters.

“It’s a concern of ours,” he said.

The 14-story, 1,000-plus-room Masonic Temple at Temple and Second was completed in 1926. According to its Web site, it’s the world’s largest Masonic Temple.

They do need to pay their bills. We had our water shut off once because we were 2 weeks overdue. They are lucky to have 60 days. Some who protest are proably free loaders who want their free OBAMA shit.Everyone has to pay bills on time. Why are they making so much noise when all they have to do is pay on time.

In the "old days", the only news sources were CBSABCNBC. Then along came CNN. Also, the era of the newspaper was still in effect. So news could be found in NYT, Washington Post, LA Times, AJC, etc...

Then came the first easy access alternative to MSM; Rush. Believe it or not, this was radically different from the aforementioned propagandists. And what did they do? They doubled down and became even bigger tools of the leftists the numbnuts seem to give a pass. And Rush, too, has evolved into a big time cheerleader of the Republicrats.

Thankfully, we have so many alternatives now to the NWO MSM jackasses. But only a fool will get information from one source or group of similar sources. A person who thirsts for truth should look at as many different sources as possible and filter what's REAL from that.

One or a few people not paying water bills isn't likely to be a systemic problem and may just be due to individual issues, however, when large numbers of an urban community aren't able to pay their water bills, assuming this is true, than you have a major systemic problem of which not paying the water bill is simply an effect - in which case, some of the lazy pension sucking city officials need to get off their cans and address the likely causes, i.e, there are no jobs, not enough income in Detroit - you don't turn off the water in mass, which, at the very least puts individuals and the community at risk of disease from lack of hygiene, hydration etc....

How long have these people been overdue. I think 60 days is more then enough time to come up with payment or get shut off. Maybe there just free loaders taking it to the limit and i'm pretty sure they knew they were late on their bill. How can you just rack up 60 days worth of a water bill and not know. Then say, OMG they shut off my water. Please. No excuse. They knew it was coming and pushed it to the limit and now are cryin wolf. They had 60 days to try to get help to pay their bill, but they didn't.
