If God is all loving, then there has to be forgiveness for one's humanly transgressions, surely. If no forgiveness is forthcoming, then why care what God thinks or wants from me?

I was raised Protestant. Dad was the choir director and Mom sang in the choir. At one point in the early 70's Mom decided she couldn't believe in the church any longer. The passage (or sermon that one Sunday) that she couldn't get past was:

“God loves your children even more than you do.”

What my Mom mused on after hearing that - was that she loved myself and my brother so much that there was no 'sin' we might commit, small or large that she could ever imagine letting us burn in hell fire for all eternity to 'pay for it'. Her mother's heart could not entertain that edict from God, at all.
