Probe after probe went up every 250 miles and returned the same puzzling result: The levels of ozone in the air column some 9 miles up — all the way to the stratosphere — were below what could be reliably detected by the instruments.

Explain to me please how something could be minus 2 humidity? Humidity is measured in percentage so in my best of knowledge the minimum humidity can only by 0%. I don't believe there is such a thing as a negative percentage.

Well, there really is no news here. It gets over 110 regularly in the deserts of Nevada.

Could OP have meant 112 degrees, but humidity is low, so subtract 2 degrees?
I'm from the north-east, so humidity always adds heat, not takes it away, so this whole idea of dry heat confuses me....

It always gets that hot. It is June. It is the desert.

Many a global warming shill pick the hottest extremes to justify their lies about global warming.

It is a little early to get such high temperatures here -- and it is technically still Spring. I can only imagine what the average will be in July / August (120's). It always melts the glue holding the windows in on the car.

We barely had a winter in NV this past season. Last year several trees were removed that shaded my house, it's gonna be an easy bake oven for certain soon, regardless of the AC. Not looking forward to it.

i lived 30 yrs in vegas.

from june to august...vegas can reach 122 degrees, I've experienced it and worked in it doing construction.

yes, early june as well.

weather reports always downplay the temperature in vegas so as to not discourage tourists.

typically if it's 120 in vegas, the official high is reported as 115.

if the temp in vegas hits 123 this summer, then you can say it is getting warmer.

Because everyone knows the best marine and polar research comes from a place...not near the ocean or polar caps.

Interesting- when it snows 6 inches in Corpus Christi, TX for the first time in over 40 years, climate mongers say a single weather event doesn't prove anything. When it happens again the following winter...they say the same thing.

I've lived in the desert myself and they have the heat index which is like the wind chill temp. The hotter it gets and the less humidity the higher the heat index.

It has been hotter before.

It has been colder before too. Local temperatures observed within a very short span of time are not "unprecedented". The Earth has been around for a very long time. Just because this or that year in a decade or a century is warmer or colder does not make it "unprecedented". The medieval warm period was warmer than it is today. It was warmer when the Roman Empire ruled the world. It was colder during the Dark Ages and the Greek Empire.

Look, Im a believer in climate change and I can see myself the changes in the climate and weather. But the last time I was in Vegas was in June about five years ago. The temperature on Fremont Street was 129 degrees, on the concrete. So I would say you picked a bad example.

1.) Las Vegas, despite your obviously limited understanding of geography, is NOT the whole planet.

2.) You're in a desert what do you expect? For all you know that is normal and the lower temperatures during your pitifully short lifetime were the aberration.

3.) Meanwhile, here in Northeastern Ohio, it is 42F at 10:00am and today it may make it to 70F which in my experiencing is well within the norm for this time of year.

I remember walking 1 mile in Phoenix 6 years ago, at 2pm, where the temperature was 117. That was a bad experience.
I was hyperventilating and became very dizzy.
I don't even know how I made my way back.
