The unprecedented early summer heat wave that affected northeastern China, Mongolia, and the Koreas on May 26-31 has shifted eastward to center over Japan since June 1st and has brought all-time record heat to the northern island of Hokkaido.

It has been hotter before.
"record-setting temperature of 134 degrees Fahrenheit (56.7 degrees Celsius) was actually recorded in Death Valley on July 10, 1913." [link to www.livescience.com]

It has been colder before too. Local temperatures observed within a very short span of time are not "unprecedented". The Earth has been around for a very long time. Just because this or that year in a decade or a century is warmer or colder does not make it "unprecedented". The medieval warm period was warmer than it is today. It was warmer when the Roman Empire ruled the world. It was colder during the Dark Ages and the Greek Empire.
