Re: Firearm question when does this get fun?
You should try my Benelli Nova pump with 3-1/2" magnum shells. 3-1/2" BB shot shells put out about 93 .18" steel BBs per pull at 1550fps.

My .22LR puts out ONE .22" projectile at about 1250fps.

The .22LR is "fun", My .177 pellet rifle that puts out at 1300fps (faster than a .22LR) is "fun". The Benelli Nova with 3-1/2" shells is all business.

First, take off the skinny jeans and put down your Mocha Frappe.

Second, grow some balls.

lmao!
Today we need a nation of minute men; men who are not only prepared to take up arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as a basic purpose of their daily life..

OP the first time I shot a 12ga I was 10yrs old . It blew my shoulder right out of the socket . My arm was swangin in the breeze . Don't at all be embarrassed cause you find it difficult to shoot. You'll either figure it out or move to a less powerful platform . if you like shotguns 20ga or .410 are excellent candidates if you simply find the 12ga to be too powerful

Re: Firearm question when does this get fun?
Single shot is the roughest ride there is for a shotgun. The pumps/semi autos are smoother because of the extra mass of those models absorbing the recoil

Yep, having shoulder slammed isn't fun.
There's plenty of firearms with low recoil for increased enjoyment.

The fun starts with hollow point slugs & watermelons & gallons of paint.

Do some youtube searches on the subject. Weight on your front foot, lean into it, and secure into your shoulder. You'll be fine.

Haha that was me . But either way I'm sure it doesn't have everything to do with being a single shot definately a little but . You shoot 3" slug out of ANY 12 ga short of an automatic all day and your shoulder will feel it. Even if you're an old pro that has 1000's of hours on the platform .

Not everyone likes shooting a 12ga .

Re: Firearm question when does this get fun?
I was given a 20ga. when I was 8 and upgraded to a 12ga. when I was 11. Granted, it was a semi-auto Browning, which absorbs a lot of the recoil, but still, I was only a scrawny 11 year old.

I still have my Great Grandmother's 1920's 12ga. break barrel single shot. I've never fired any firearm that has as much recoil as this ol' beast. But, I've often shot it from the hip with no issues. It is very easy to control if you are familiar with firearms.

I am a member/Wiki Editor for a large caliber firearm forum and often read about people asking about recoil pads. I often go "all CHIP" on them and ask why the hell are they shooting large caliber firearms and even thinking about recoil? They pretty much go hand in hand.

To be proficient and comfortable with firearms, you need experience. Once you have the confidence in yourself and the specific firearms you own or are around, it becomes second nature. I've often shot a couple hundred rounds of 12ga. out trap shooting and never gave the recoil a second thought...well, until the next morning lol.

Keep at it and do some research. The pump guns are the most fun to shoot (though I'd like to try the other Member's lever actions :) ). As with anything, to be good at it, you gotta keep at it.

Good luck!
