Quoting: W. W. RauppThose middle eastern people don't need it. The West does, so that kind makes it ours. What kind of logic is that? The oil does not belong to the West because if it did, it would be actually in Western countries. Technically, it shouldn't belong to anyone but for the moment it could be considered the property of whoever is lucky enough to be standing over it. |

It's the only way that we can progress as a species, for without the combined effort of every nation on Earth, we won't be able to leave this rock. If we stay as separate, warring tribes, we'll be doomed to a future of overpopulation and scarce resources. |

I mean, honestly, they barely have the money to support themselves so they are only doing the obvious: selling oil that is rightfully ours. In fact, because the West has spent so much money on development and aid, we should be getting it for free and selling it back to them. That would be truly "free trade". In fact, because the West has spent so much money on development and aid, we should be getting it for free and selling it back to them. That would be truly "free trade". First off: The west build there fortunes by exploiting other country's. Did you forget slavery, apartheid, all the orcastrated wars, i can go on for hours. Do you even know how America got founded? Second: Aid isnt a gift. Its a deal. Like the food for oil program. The west has never ever given anything away. Thats why most country's are in incredible debt. Even the US hehehe but that has another reason. This is mainly cus YOU are being exploited by your government. |
W. W. Raupp User ID: 51431 ![]() 07/04/2006 01:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Exploiting? No. Those people allowed themselves to be exploited. If they set aside their differences and other disagreements, they could have been an effective fighting force against Europeans. Africans, Indians and so on never did. I'd start blaming Europeans when their practices were totally outrageous, but for that time, it was normal. Presenting the slave trade as a legal argument against the present situation it bull. 2nd. We have given much more money than this ludicrous food-for-oil programme alone. It's their fault OUR good money disappears in pockets of greedy politicians and dictators. It's the Africans and the people in the Middle Eastern's fault they cannot run a country properly. Well if they can't, then why not let the West take care of resources they cannot manage? If you cannot manage a country, how can you manage your 'milk and honey'? Tell me. To shape the world is to become immortal |

Tox User ID: 54792 ![]() 07/04/2006 02:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Is it really that difficult to see Dred's position? It's one thing to hope for and believe in the possibility of the entire world acting in accordance with right and just principles, making it happen is just a little more difficult. It's not as though everyone on the planet will awaken one day and realize the folly of the current political systems and abandon the use of force. Deeply ingrained political thought processes, ethinic animosities and many people deriving rewards from the current system (justly or otherwise) ensure that it will not just fizzle out. When there is an enormous task, divide it into smaller, workable parts to promote specialization and efficiency. That is exactly what nationalism is. A world divided up into workable regions in an attempt to discover and implement the most useful, just and effective means of governance. At times, nations, like individuals, become full of false pride and begin to point the finger at those around them for their own failings, which is why a nation must preserve it's ability to question itself and its direction. The "Let 'er rip," mentality towards globalism is as dangerous as the blind allegiance to nationalism as the apex of civilization. You don't just toss a teenager the car keys on his 16th birthday without first teaching him how to drive as the "Let 'er rip" globalist seem to advocate. You certainly don't attempt to prevent him from learning and growing up and striking out on his own as the blind nationalists seem to advocate. The course of progress is a slow one. The best way to ensure that progress is continuous is through careful steps forwards and the ability to take a pause and check your direction. Nationalism provides that for right now, but it is not the end of the journey by far. The free man discovers his potential in service to a commonwealth. The kept man discovers his aptitude for subverting a commonwealth to his own ends. |
