MCAULIFFE LETTER DEMANDS ANSWERS FROM GILLESPIE ON RNC FUNDED VOTER FRAUD

WASHINGTON, DC – Responding to recent news reports of voter fraud by groups paid for by the RNC in Nevada, Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe sent Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie a letter in which he asks Gillespie why the RNC is funding an organization that is ripping up Democratic voter registrations and other important questions.

Text of the letter to Gillespie

October 13, 2004

Hon. Ed Gillespie
Chairman
Republican National Committee
312 First Street, S.E.
Washington, D.C. 20003

Dear Ed:

In recent weeks, all over the country, the Republican Party has been engaged in systematic efforts to disenfranchise voters—to impose unlawful i.d. requirements in New Mexico, to throw eligible voters off the rolls in Clark County Nevada and to deprive voters of their rights to vote a provisional ballot in Ohio, among other examples.

And the Republicans’ excuse for these efforts? It’s always about protecting the process from “voter fraud.” In fact the AP reported on September 19th that President Bush expressed to Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn and Attorney General Brian Sandoval he was concerned about voter fraud in Clark County.

But just last night, the American people have learned that it is actually the Republicans who are engaging in voter fraud in Nevada, Oregon and potentially other states as well and in fact you are paying for it.

Press reports in Nevada disclosed that a Republican organization, “Voters Outreach for America” has been ripping up Democratic voter registration forms in that state. According to those same reports, on KLAS-TV, Channel 8, that group has been “largely, if not entirely, funded by the Republican National Committee.” Indeed, a classified ad recruiting paid workers for “Voters Outreach” in Nevada carried the disclaimer, “Paid for by the RNC.”

The Washoe County (Reno) Nevada voter registrar (who was identified as a Republican by Channel 8 News) has asked the FBI to investigate complaints of out of state groups submitting fraudulent voter registration forms and refusing to register anyone but Republicans.

And it is reported that this group has now moved its operations to Oregon, where the Secretary of State and Attorney General are already investigating allegations that a paid Republican canvasser was ordered to destroy forms turned in by Democrats.

In Oregon, “Voters Outreach”, also known as “America Votes,” has been linked to Sproul & Associates, a firm that has been paid some half a million dollars by the RNC.

Ed, there are only 20 days left to the election. Early vote starts in Nevada and Oregon over this weekend. We are deeply concerned these reports of Republican National Committee funded felonious activities in these states could serve to discourage all voters from voting because of concerns of problems with their ballot. Regardless of party or candidate, it is the civic and moral duty of both parties to encourage complete and full participation in the democratic process.

In the name of democracy, it is essential that you and the Republican National Committee proactively come forward to address this issue, especially since President Bush will be traveling to both of these states immediately following the debate. You can either let this burgeoning Republican scandal fester, or you can come clean with the American people by:

Giving the Election Officials in Nevada and Oregon, the press and the public answers to these questions immediately:

Why is the Republican National Committee funding an organization that is ripping up voter registration forms of Democrats?

Who’s behind “Voters Outreach for America” and what is their link to Sproul & Associates?

How much has the RNC paid for “Voters Outreach” and similar groups to engage in voter registration?

Exactly what were these groups instructed to do about voters they registered who freely chose to register as Democrats?

Disclosing to Election officials, attorneys in Nevada and Oregon and press immediately, all documents, correspondence and invoices between the RNC and “Voters Outreach,” Sproul and all other groups employed by the RNC to register voters;

Refusing to pay Sproul and any other groups engaged in GOP “registration activities” until all questions can be answered and information disclosed.

Voluntarily agreeing to make knowledgeable RNC officials available for depositions in the litigation being brought by the Democratic Party of Nevada seeking a remedy for the victims of Republican voter registration fraud in that state and any other state or party seeking relief based on RNC funded efforts.

Ed, please let me know right away whether you will agree to these steps which are essential to address the deep fears and concerns voters now have about Republican voter fraud.

Sincerely yours,

Terence R. McAuliffe
Chairman

Now it´s a formally written notice of record to the Bush campaign,

and that´s an important step to show that you have attempted to mitigate the claim. An offer to back off unless the corrections are not made.

So they´re between the bull and the barbed wire now.

I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore! I especially want to see "...seeking a remedy for the victims of Republican voter registration fraud in that state and any other state or party seeking relief based on RNC funded efforts."

They need to extend the voter registration another 10 days at a minimum (deadline today) so we can have time to re-register if we discover we are not on the list to vote. Damn it.

Re: DNC Press Release: McAuliffe Demands Answers on RNC-Funded Voter Fraud
How many of y´all read about the voter registration organization in Nevada that was throwing away the Democratic registration applications? How much more brazen and shameless can these people get? Four years ago when Democrats went to court to try to get the Florida absentee ballots thrown out in those counties where Republicans but not Democrats had been allowed to fix the absentee ballot applications, when the Democrats lost that case, they just dropped it. Y´know what I thought they should do and hoped they would do? THEY SHOULD HAVE PROSECUTED THOSE REPUBLICAN COUNTY OFFICIALS WHO ALLOWED THAT FRAUD TO TAKE PLACE! Even though those Republicans got away with their shenanigans insofar as they helped to get their candidate fraudulently "elected," THEY STILL SHOULD HAVE BEEN HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR IT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW.

This year, THIS IS WHAT WE´VE GOT TO DO! If their disgusting shenanigans get Bush "elected" to a second term, WE´VE GOT TO MAKE THEM PAY FOR IT BY HOLDING THEM LEGALLY ACCOUNTABLE FOR THOSE SHENANIGANS. So that instead of getting plum jobs in a second Bush administration, they go to jail, or they get ruined economically with legal costs and lawyers´ fees defending themselves in court against criminal and civil charges. So that in the future, anybody who tries to pull shenanigans like these will think twice before doing so.

Four years ago, we let them get away with it. NONE of them had to face ANY consequences. Kathryn Harris got a seat in the House of Representatives, Jeb got a second term, lots of others got plum jobs in the Bush administration ... and because they found out then that they can get away with it and even get REWARDED for it, they´re getting even more shameless and brazen this time around. They´ll keep doing it as long as they are getting away with it, and the only way to stop it is to MAKE SURE THAT THEY ALWAYS FACE THE CONSEQUENCES.

It´s happening right here and right now in the United States of America, folks. And it´s even happening out in the open, where anybody with a brain and a pair of functioning eyes and ears can see clearly that it´s happening. It´s widespread election fraud, ballot tampering, voter suppression, voter intimidation, rigging of election machinery, election officials with obvious conflicts of interest ... and I´ve even heard REPUBLICANS claim with a straight face that DEMOCRATS are trying to steal elections, and yet whenever there is some sort of an election anomaly, it seems like it ALWAYS favors the REPUBLICAN candidate, which is like tossing a coin and it coming up heads every single time ...

AC 4:48, I hear you, loud and clear.

WHY have the democrats stood down and allowed this type of clearly illegal activity to continue without LAWSUITS UP THE WAZZOOO!!

I think we have to make it clear to them that we WILL NOT support the democratic party unless and until they DO!!!

I am SOOO sick of this.

And, for the record, whenever I hear ANY complaints from a republican, I now AUTOMATICALLY think, "this is something that THEY, the Republicans, are already doing."

Kerry "Bush will have to answer directly tonight"

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) accused the Bush administration of "callous disregard" for America´s unemployed after a cabinet member reportedly dismissed the net loss of jobs as "myths."

"Claims like the one that Bush will be the first president to end a term with fewer jobs than when he started are nothing more than ´myths,´ Snow claimed," wrote the 24,000-circulation Findlay Courier.

Snow said he was misquoted.

But as Kerry prepared for his third and final debate with Bush later Wednesday, with the focus on domestic issues, the Democrats went into overdrive with a flurry of reactions to Snow´s reported statement and a planned television advertisement.

"These comments reflect the callous disregard this administration has shown for the millions of people who are out of work and seen their quality of life suffer over the last four years," Kerry said.

"It reflects the degree to which the White House tries to spin its way out of the problems facing working America when it should be focusing on solutions," the Massachusetts senator said in a statement.

"President Bush will have to answer directly tonight for this outrageous slap in the face to America´s middle class. He´ll also have to answer for the worst jobs record since Herbert Hoover" more than 70 years ago

9NEWS I-Team reporter Deborah Sherman reports on the reaction by Secretary of State Davidson to reports of voter registration fraud exposed by 9NEWS. 9NEWS at noon. Oct. 13, 2004.

DENVER - Colorado´s Secretary of State Donetta Davidson is calling for a grand jury investigation into wide-spread voter registration fraud uncovered by the 9News I-Team.

Davidson held a press conference Wednesday morning during which she expressed concern over the delays in the investigation of the fraud by Attorney General Ken Salazar.

Davidson told reporters, "In April of this year, I had sent several hundred suspicious voter registrations to the Office of the Attorney General for investigation, as required by law. At that time, the Attorney General´s Office assured me that a multi-jurisdictional investigation of those forms would be conducted and would include the cooperation of the District Attorney´s statewide."

"To date," Davidson continued, "only one person has been charged with fraud by the Office of the Attorney General."

Davidson is organizing an emergency meeting this Sunday, Oct. 17, to review the questionable voter registrations. She wants the District Attorneys, the Attorney General and the County Clerks from the metro area to be at that meeting.

9News originally broke this story Monday night at 10 p.m. That story is available by clicking the link to the right. We have several reporters working on this story Wednesday. Tune in at noon, 4, 5, 6 and 10pm for the very latest.

The I-Team has uncovered some disturbing evidence of voter registration fraud. 10 p.m. Oct. 11, 2004.

DENVER - With just 21 days left until an election in which every vote will count, the 9News I-Team has uncovered voter registration fraud that could cause chaos on Election Day for hundreds, possibly thousands of Colorado voters.

9News has discovered a record number of fraudulent voter-registrations across the state. Secretary of State Donetta Davidson tells 9News she is concerned about what the I-Team has uncovered and wants those responsible prosecuted. "It has just gone rampant," she told reporter Deborah Sherman in an interview Monday afternoon.

Most of the fraud has come from registration drives, where people at grocery stores or on the streets ask you to sign up. 9News has learned many workers have re-registered voters multiple times by changing or making up information about them. 9News has documented 719 cases of potentially fraudulent forms at county election offices show fraudulent names, addresses, social security numbers or dates of birth in Denver, Douglas, Adams, Boulder and Lake counties. Information from other counties is still coming in.

Some voter registration application forms are completely bogus. Others belong to legitimate voters, who have had one or two facts changed that could affect their registration when they show up at the polls November 2nd. Tom Stanislawski registered to vote six years ago. But this summer, someone signed him up again and changed his party affiliation. "My concern would be I´d walk in November 2nd and be unable to vote," he said.

Some of the registration drive workers earn $2 per application or about $10 an hour. One woman admitted to forging three people´s names on about 40 voter registration applications. Kym Cason says she was helping her boyfriend earn more money from a get-out-the-vote organization called ACORN or Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. ACORN works with low or moderate-income families on housing issues. Cason said her extra registrations earned her boyfriend $50.

Gerald Obi says workers pressured him to keep registering to vote so they too could earn extra cash. When asked how many times he had registered this year, Obi said, "about 35 times."

ACORN´s state director said they are victims of the fraud as well and told 9News the group is cooperating with local investigators. Ross Fitzgerald says the group has fired workers for the fraud. "Our goal is to register as many people as we can," said Fitzgerald. "If they´re fraudulent, that hurts our numbers."

Clerk and Recorders from several counties met Monday with Secretary of State Donetta Davidson to discuss this problem, and the problem of felons registering to vote. "I have to question whether we should be allowing people to accept money for voter registration," said Douglas County Clerk and Recorder Carole Murray.

Colorado Secretary of State Donetta Davidson agreed and said she will be looking at ways to reform the system.

BIG difference between ACORN findings regarding employees who inflate their numbers whether they are democratic OR republican, and are pursuing the situation:

"ACORN´s state director said they are victims of the fraud as well and told 9News the group is cooperating with local investigators."

And the "VOTE AMERICA" republican front that skips town without paying their bills and moves on to Oregon. With HUNDREDS of voter registrations being shredded, only, of course, if they are DEMOCRATIC!!! AND, of course, NO ADMISSION of any guilt, oh no...

It is obvious to me, that the article you used in a sort of attempt at refutation is more about dishonest individuals trying scalp a little money than it is blatant removal of any particular party members registrations like happened in Nevada.
