Sorry OP gotta call BS on this one. Too many other things outside of the ocean happening with nature - killing nature or seriously messing with nature.

Cause is radiation. As the Earth's magnetosphere drops more radiation is streaming in. Birds have been falling dead from the sky, bee colonies going extinct, whales and dolphins washing ashore because they are confused. Sea coral dying. Humans with many more diseases recently than normal, including cancers and brain disorders - central nervous system affected.

This is the true mark of the beast - the beast being our sun.

I highly doubt BP would be allowed to make what you suggest. Good sci-fi story though.
