I just watched a documentary about Mountain Lions, and it showed how they are loosing their fear of humans, due a Canine disease they contracted from either dogs or racoons...

They need to be hunted, to bring their population back down..

They seem to believe that people are required to keep nature in balance - as if nature can't handle itself.

I even posted the stats on cougar attacks in California - despite the high number of cats, they aren't going after people.

Unlike humans, who feel the need to kill other creatures simply for existing and having the potential to be deadly, these cats have learned to coexist alongside us and have very VERY rarely posed any threat to human beings.

yes, they deny it, but years ago I saw foot prints and the unmistakable tail drag in the snow in a little woods in Southern Ontario.

You are advocating the killing of sentient creatures simply for existing in such a way that makes you slightly nervous - do you realize how insane that is??

Like I said before, children are far FAR more likely to be mauled by the family dog than by a big cat and we don't go around culling the family pet population every time a child is bitten.

It's absurd to advocate killing these cats just because they're making people antsy.

well, if there was one laying out by my barn in the daytime, and I and the dogs and the horse are in the yard, somebody has to leave, that's just the way it is.
I like animals as much, probably more, than most people, but
I'm not so stupid as to get someone or my animals killed either.
Now if I raised the cougar and I knew it, that would be a different story.

the deer here have ticks with lyme disease, the more that die the better. And canada geese, they are out of control.

Big cats are not interested in filthy long pig meat, unless the long pig is a threat to the cat.

There's a difference between getting a cougar away from your barn and chasing down and handing out hunting tags to cull cougars just for existing.

I get you, but your previous post about them needing to be reduced in numbers because "laying around cities in the daytime" indicates that you'd like to see their numbers reduced simply because they are getting bolder and venturing out a little.

If you're advocating that we go out and kill these cats - cats who have no real history of attacking humans (I mean, come on, the rarity of attacks given the population density in the area and the number of cats pretty much speaks for itself) - just because they are SEEN in the city in daylight, that seems extreme to me.

All they are doing is existing, they aren't attacking - they are diligently trying to coexist.

Mountain lions don't "dilegently" coexist. They are predators.
If they have have no qualms about hanging around humans in day light they are more than likely habituated to humans.
