Actually, I think it was a third of the angels that rebelled. Why does a child rebel against it's parents? Are it's parents dictators? God is no dictator. He gives us free will. Lucifer wanted to be like God. He was jealous of God, and wanted to be a God himself. He wanted worshippers himself. His heart was vain and evil. He's the Prince of Lies, and he convinced 1/3 of the other angels to follow him in his rebellion against God. But he was no God, he didn't create the universe.
