Even In Hand To Hand Combat!!! A Gurkha soldier who single-handedly defeated more than 30 Taliban fighters has been awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross by the Queen. Corporal Dipprasad Pun, 31, described how he was spurred on by the belief that he was going to die and so had nothing to lose in taking on the attackers who overran his checkpoint in Afghanistan. The soldier fired more than 400 rounds, launched 17 grenades and detonated a mine to thwart the Taliban assault on his checkpoint near Babaji in Helmand Province, southern Afghanistan, last September. At one point, after exhausting all his ammunition, he had to use the tripod of his machine gun to beat away a militant who was climbing the walls of the compound. Even In Hand To Hand Combat!!! That sounds like a horrible situation. I feel for anyone who has been in combat that intense. Some say that heros aren't born they're made and I don't believe that. When things get that bad, most people shit-them selves in a pit and lay there crying. Others stand up and fight even though they are pretty sure they will die anyway. I don't feel bad for the folks I wasted to save my-self, my country, and those I love. But I remember it like it was yesterday. Every victory over the forces of evil on this rock is worth it, but you pay for it, and keep paying. Freedom sure as shit isn't free, and it cant protect it's self. Be thankful no ones shooting at you today, shake a vets hand and thank them for drawing the fire, because thats what they do for a day job and it sucks. This man is a hero for sure, and he will live with it for the rest of his life.
