This reminds me of the Hopi Indian prophecy, wherein they say a race of aliens will come and pretend to save us.
That the aliens will promise a new life, and a greater world - But what it means is you lose your soul. Everyone who stays on earth and physically perishes gets to have everlasting life, while those who believed the false prophet loses their soul forever.
