Currently Dawn is performing the Survey orbit at 4,430km altitude. This process began on the 6th of June and is scheduled to last until the end of the month. The framing cameras will have a resolution of 410m/pixel during the survey orbit so that is only around 17% better than OpNav 9 at 480m/pixel [ link to photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov] [ link to dawn.jpl.nasa.gov] Spot 5 will appear 62% bigger than it does in this OpNav 8 image [ link to photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov] which is 670m/pixel. Well that didn't take long, here is Spot 5 at 410m/pixel resolution [ link to photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov] hosted [ link to dawn.jpl.nasa.gov] That is probably the best view we will get until August 4th when Dawn begins its HAMO orbit. We may be lucky and see Spot 5 during an OpNav imaging run between 30th June and 4th August but there is no guarantee of that. Looking at the image in photoshop last night didn't reveal much detail in the spots, they are pretty much saturated. I will try and find out the resolution of VIR to see if we can expect an answer to the puzzle this month. K
