Sociologists and Criminal theorists all agree on one thing.
The poorer the people get in any local region of the U.S., the higher crime rate will go. This is well documented, well known... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 60357474 Only problem with that is it doesn't take into account the fact that the ridiculously high level of murder and violence in Chicongo of today wasn't evident during the Great Depression, when America, including Chicago, was poorer than it is in 2014.
New York City also became a laughingstock for crime and murders over 30 years ago, peaking around the late 1970s and then again in the 1980s. Was that due to the economy back then being more greatly affected by the loss of manufacturing jobs to China or elsewhere compared with today, or was it because of mayors like Rudy Giuliani and NY's police department finally cracking down on the bullshit of squeegee guys, graffiti vandals and criminals who were coddled?
