How come this movie attracted 7 million viewers, if - as we are told - the public demands gore and violence in a movie to be successful?

In the UK the major multiplex's screen performances live from places like the Royal Opera House. If you look at Cineworld UK, one of the main featured upcoming productions is "Shakespeares globe on screen" [ link to www.cineworld.co.uk] These are hugely popular with people who can not get to a major theatre/opera house but have a multiplex close by.. so while there is all the gore we still have the arts.. not that I like opera or the ballet. I wish we had that here in the US
