NATO accuses Russia of escalating Ukraine conflict

NATO has said that Russia, while calling for de-escalation of the Ukraine conflict, had in fact been escalating it.
NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said the alliance was checking eyewitness reports that a column of at least 23 Russian military vehicles had crossed into Ukraine overnight.
A Reuters reporter at the scene saw a dozen armoured personnel carriers (APCs) on the move not far from a Russian convoy carrying humanitarian aid for Ukraine.
Dozens of heavy Russian military vehicles have also massed near the border with Ukraine.
Another Reuters reporter saw two dozen APCs moving near the border with Ukraine last night.
The Guardian reported this morning its reporter saw several APCs crossing the border with Ukraine.
The newspaper said the move was unlikely to represent a full-scale official Russian invasion, but it was clear evidence that Russian troops are active inside Ukraine's borders.
Ms Lungescu said: "If (the reports are) confirmed, they are further evidence that Russia is doing the very opposite of what it's saying.
"Russia has been escalating the conflict, even as it calls for de-escalation.
