Laurie Garrett, Pulitzer-science author of Coming Plague: "You are not nearly scared enough about Ebola""
[link to www.foreignpolicy.com]

If you haven't read her book, the Coming Plague. Do so. Goes a lot deeper than the Hot Zone by Preston.

Her bottom line: "Experimental drugs and airport screenings will do nothing to stop this plague. If Ebola hits Lagos, we're in real trouble."

Can anybody stop and listen to reason fast enough? Our leaders are asleep at the wheel.
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” - Frank Herbert

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the blah, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” Romans 1:16-17

Amen. Experts would be wise to take some of her concern to heart. Those airports better shutdown soon.

But a lot of journalists buy into the crap and fear of global warming based on the idea it's caused by human-generated carbon dioxide. So I'd have to know more about how Laurie treats topics like that before I'd know whether to trust her theories or not.

Again, I disagree.

It is WAY too late.

You could shut down 1/3 of everything in the whole country and we would still struggle to contain what will show it's deadly face in the next 2 weeks, and again much larger in 30 days.

God Bless you all.

Good Luck, you will need it.

I encourage you to read her amazing book on the topic. She isn't just dropping by for an opinion...she has a superb handle on these issues and the points her book made are playing out, sadly, through present events.

Medical infrastructure is a key factor in controlling the virus. Africa needs more funding to contain and treat the disease. This isn't happening.

Luckily, Ebola hasn't been discovered within animal ecosystems outside of Africa, but the worry is that the disease spreads to a location that lacks a solid and well funded medical infrastructure.

I don't believe the disease will rampage across the world in a blanket, exponential fashion. What we may see is a slow and controlled pandemic in places with quality health care, and burn outs and mass infection within densely populated zones in Africa...maybe maybe Asia.

I share your sentiments and prayers for hope to all affected.

I think many are scared they just don't realize though that it will be far worse then anything they can imagine. I keep going back to the stand movie in my mind. However what people don't realize is even WHO isn't going by the rules with this infection. Look at the WHO worker they believe may have contracted it. They are allowed to do whatever they want for the next 14 days in this country.wtf When I heard that yesterday I realized then and there they themselves are helping this stuff to spread.

She is CFR! Definitely heed her warning through that lens. There is a real message there, I just don't trust her motives.

that is really hard for people to accept because if they do, they have to know it's likely to get them. if they can think this is just some non weaponized disaster, they think they may be able to outrun it.

I not the survivalist by no means, but I am going to start gathering supplies and medicine and I plan on going off the grid if this hits around my house. The way I look at it is you have 2 options. 1 is get the virus and let it run its course and hope you survive, or 2 stay ways from people. Hospitals will be no help as every room will possible have 10 patients and nurses and doctors will be few as most will walk out.
