Arab foreign ministers held a meeting in Saudi Arabia on Sunday to discuss the Syrian conflict and the rise of "extremism" in the region, the official SPA news agency reported.

The meeting came as U.S. media reported that Washington, which has launched air raids in northern Iraq against Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, could consider similar action against ISIS militants in Syria.

The closed-door talks in the Red Sea city of Jeddah was attended by the foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, as well as an advisor to Jordan's foreign minister, said SPA.

They discussed the Syrian conflict and "challenges including the rise of terrorist extremist ideology.”

Dubai: Saudi Arabia is to host a meeting of foreign ministers from several Arab states to discuss the Syrian conflict and the rise of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil), Egypt’s foreign ministry announced yesterday.
It said Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia were to take part in today’s talks to be held in Jeddah.
The meeting will address “the growing presence in Iraq and Syria of extremists, notably the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil),” the ministry said in a statement.
It added that the rise of Isil meant the “search for a political solution to the Syria crisis was needed more than ever”.
Since declaring a “caliphate” in June, Isil has conducted a lightning offensive, taking control of territory straddling Iraq and Syria.
Worldwide condemnation
The jihadists sparked worldwide horror and condemnation last week when they released a video showing the beheading of US journalist James Foley.
Saudi foreign ministry spokesman Osama Nugali told AFP that a “meeting between some Arab states will be held tomorrow [Sunday] to discuss some Arab issues,” without elaborating.

The only way you can combat ''ISIS'', is if Iraq, Kurdish and Syrian Army work together on their respective borders. The US can only do so much from the air. If they remain divided, ISIS will grow stronger.

this is what I thought but then I see the press are pushing for a strike on Syria to combat isis - what did I miss?

I though it was the threat of isis in Iraq and the humanitarian/ mosul dam crisis there that were the reasons for tasking up arms

when did Syria become the target again ?

this seems very smelly - they ( the Saudis ) have been pushing for the last 12 m on us/uk backed Syrian attacks and then telling the uk to let Iraq sort out the isis problem there and to stay out of it

..but not in Syria - in Syria we've to go in all guns blazing

smelly smelly smelly

The United States, with the aid of Arab partners, has begun air strikes against Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) targets in Syria, a U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Reuters news agency.

The official declined to name which Arab states were involved or specify their roles.

The Pentagon confirmed on Monday that the U.S. and unspecified partner nations were carrying out the first air strikes against ISIS targets in Syria, opening up a new, more complicated front against the militants.

Who's got the tape footage of John Kerry speaking to congress about that SA will pay all costs for the US to invade Syria? From just over a year ago, the 9/11 anniversary wasn't a good enough selling point that year- fast forward, release gitmo leaders for a traitor and instantly(like fuckin' sea monkees) we now have a brand new horrible entity to confront that is alarmingly armed with our might, strategically aware and feeling superior..... Maybe making every possible concession isn't the way to show strength and integrity ~ Hahaha, J/K - SA is clearly in control right now. Tell me I'm wrong!!!
