POLL: Is it ok to cut the lawn with a gas mower with baby on back in carrier?
 No, not ok -- ever
Ok, with an electric quiet mower
Ok any time with any mower
ok if child is over 2
Should have called child protection services
 It's a guy thing...

My wifes sister was strapped on her grandmothers back while she worked in a rice patty to try and get enough food to eat so they all didnt starve to death for 10 hours a day.

I am concerned that he was using a tool with a motor and blades attached. He could have slipped or the child could have wiggled out of the carrier.. No, this is wrong.

Only in the USA would anyone complain! You need to travel OP, what do you think people do with their children in the 3rd world? I have seen families of 5 on one motorcycle with only the father wearing a helmet (because the law stats only the operator needs to wear one.) Appalling to me, but normal here....

People in the US need to Mind their own business more.

Probably as safe as being transported across the prairie and through mosquito infested swamps in the back of a rickety wagon pulled by horses before cars were invented.

Primal, where it's at! Return to your origins!! Humans have carried their babies and toddlers since the dawning of time - it's natural. Obviously if it's insanely loud or old with bad fumes it might be time for a new mower. Nothing wrong with a hands on Dad, either. MYOB IMHO.

AND that's why the mower has a kill switch so that if your hand lets go of the lever turning the blades both the blades and the engine STOP - but if you have never used a push mower you would not know that.

Re: Would you or have you ever mowed the lawn (gas mower-loud) with an infant on your back without head neck support?
This is full of ignorance. It's safer for the child to be on the caregiver's back than to be running around while he's mowing. Just think about that.

Baby carrying or 'babywearing' is the most natural, efficient way to transport your child, accomplish chores, and go about many normal daily routines with little ones.

My partner and I have worn our child on our front, side, and back since she was born. I grocery shop with her on my back- she doesn't terrorize other shoppers or make the experience miserable by running all around or grabbing items off the shelf. Traveling is a cinch with your child on your back- no fuss getting through the airport or traveling to areas that are not stroller friendly.

When wearing a a child properly, it is completely safe, comfortable and helps build attachment between child and caregiver. It also help you to respond to your child's needs quickly.

Our child is four now, and we still wear her at festivals, on hikes, in crowded areas, at the zoo, downtown, etc. she's so comfortable that she even falls asleep on our backs, which means we don't have to interrupt our activities to get her home to take a nap.

Just google 'babywearing benefits' :)

Everyone seems to be missing the point.

1. no one seems concerned about the babies age

2. no one seems concerned about the gas fumes, and it is not like a parent who has to do this.

3. the child's head was not supported at all in this back carrier

4. I really don't care what other people do, just would not choose to do this myself, and wondered what others thought.

5. I am all for babies carried on parents properly.

If I had a baby, it would be wonderful to find a concerned person like you to watch him/her while I did outdoor work. Maybe if you offered your neighbor, he'd take you up on it. Win/win. hf
