Would you or have you ever mowed the lawn (gas mower-loud) with an infant on your back without head neck support?

I'm a single mom...I mowed the grass with a kid on my hip all the time. Who else was gonna do it? I couldn't very well leave the kid(s) alone in the house without supervision! Lol.

Lol....good for you. I saw a lady at the grocery store just the other day, one baby in the front, one on the back and 2 little ones walking with her......if she can do the grocery shopping like that I have no doubts someone can mow the lawn with one strapped to their back.

somehow I highly doubt the person that inspired this thread/poll was mowing a few acres....mowing the front and sides of a typical yard takes all of about 20 minutes or less

Meh. My children could lift up their own heads day of birth. I had one with colic...the tractor was our best friend for a little while.

I am concerned that he was using a tool with a motor and blades attached. He could have slipped or the child could have wiggled out of the carrier.. No, this is wrong.

More likely the child dies in a car accident... but I bet you wouldn't think twice about driving with baby.

Or worse, with the family dog who's always been friendly and loving, last dog in the world you think would hurt someone....until it ate the baby.
 Quoting: Nine's

My older two are now 16 and 17 and my youngest is nine. Never in a million years would I leave the youngest with the dogs even though they are great. I make him come out with me when I mow just in case. There have been too many cases where a dog has killed a family member. Eeek!

It takes slightly longer with a kid or two on the hips, lol! Thank God, those days are long gone!!!!! Lol.

Hell, my mom threatened to call children's services on me one time cuz I didn't have a/c, it was 100 degrees and I had to wash dishes, but it was sweltering. I put the two little ones in a kiddie pool in my backyard and washed dishes in a Rubbermaid tub outside. I thought I was a genius. Kids were cool, chores got done.

My mother came over during my stroke of genius and called me all kinds of awful things and threatened to call children's services cuz I was doing dishes outside!!!! Hahahah ah.

Re: Would you or have you ever mowed the lawn (gas mower-loud) with an infant on your back without head neck support?
This was a Doctor using a push mower on a small front lawn while his stay at home wife made a short errand with their other child.

He was not "in need". The child was less than 6 months old, and the lawn cutting could have easily waited the hour till the mom got home.

There are plenty of wraps that place a baby snuggly against the parents front or back giving neck support, but even that couldn't protect the baby from the fumes, heat, or noise.

An older child might have found it fun, but with all the noise the baby could have been sobbing and the dad would have never heard.

I should have asked the questions by sex. My guess is that the men were ok with this and the women were not.

Again, I really don't care what other people do, I just had never seen this done before, and thought I wouldn't do this with my kids, but wondered what other people would do.

I'm sure the child was not harmed any more than being given junk food or watching violence on TV.

AND that's why the mower has a kill switch so that if your hand lets go of the lever turning the blades both the blades and the engine STOP - but if you have never used a push mower you would not know that.

Not my mower. I have a made in the US, 1976 vintage Snapper self propelled. None of those pesky "safety" features. Runs like a champ even after almost 40 years, super simple, lighweight and reliable.

Hats off to you and other mothers like you!!rockon

Side thought if you went over to your mothers house I'll bet the sink was full of dirty dishes and 80% of the "chores" weren't done. Do you think this whole call CPS thing was nothing more than a guilty conscience? Maybe mom was a little embarrassed that you were doing a better job than her?

Like I said, My hats off to you and ALL the mothers consistently getting more accomplished in an hour than most others accomplish in a day!
