Congress/Parliament v. Masonic Lodge
This may just be me. But I just visited the Grand Lodge of Masons in the state where I reside. After going through the tour of many different lodge rooms, the thought struck me that these lodge rooms look strikingly familiar.

Commonly, in Masonic lodges, Masters sit in rows, with deputies raised slightly approve the crowd (Senior/Junior Deacon/Steward, the Tyler at the door), the Worshipful Master sitting higher among them, with a "G" or other such ornament indicating deity is fixed above the WM's, and the two pillars Boaz and Jachin are at the lodge entrance, indicating this as a special place of brotherhood and fraternity. These changes in elevations are resultant to the fact in lodges, WM's are respected as kind of "prima inter pares" or first among equals. He calls the lodge from refreshment to labour. His word guides the lodge. He his, put simply, master of his lodge.

The US Congressional Houses look very similar. The representatives sit in rows, with those members with more important positions (Senate/House Majority/Minority speakers, the VP, the Joint Chiefs given first row seats, the Sergeant-at-arms at the door). The Master of this chamber sits highest among them, the President who leads the nation. Above him is fixed a symbol indicating government, as well as two "pillars" (the fasces that flank both sides of the back wall) distinguishing this as a special place of government.

When you look at the legislatures around the world, particularly in Europe and the Americas, this trend is wide indeed.

The similarities strike me as interesting. I'm not a conspiracy nut, nor do I think this is a necessarily bad thing, I just found it interesting.
