Pull money from bank?
Need opinion...Is It time to pull money out of banks? Time to shift into overdrive, close the gates and honker down, or still a few more days to prep?

Well, if you follow Biblical prophesy, we've got at least 3 1/2 years till things REALLY get bad. The middle east will come to the very brink of destruction (like now) and then the antichrist steps in an negotiates a 3 1/2 year peace - or something like that. end

Re: Pull money from bank?
The way I look at it,
If NO ONE can get money from the banks, then money is worthless.

No one is going to want your $100 dollar bill for a can of beans. They're going to want the food they DON'T have on hand as a trade.

Maybe a bicycle in descent shape, or a good HAM Radio.

If NO ONE can get money from the bank, don't worry about your car payment or mortgage, because the bank isn't going to default on 6.2 million loans

Re: Pull money from bank?
I think we are there.

If you can get into gold and silver coins - it is easy enough to hide. A few hundred cash, and the rest in the nearly universal currancy - precious metals. But don't dive in with more than 5000 worth of silver coins or god bars. (The silver is a less money to deal with and you'll need smaller item transaction for gasoline if it's available and food, grains, etc.) Other than metals, the rest of the world will be bartering. Don't think that currency will be trusted again for a very long time. It will not. If the US defaults on its' obligations the world will have no where lese to turn other than to precious metals until the Mark of the Beast is offered, anyway.
Life really is a banquet - and truly - most poor sucker are starving! Enjoy the ride baby.

Re: Pull money from bank?
You might consider that cash is usually a small item for daily operation of a bank. Most transactions are debit/credits, they likely have only $40-50K in cash; if that for a whole day.

In event of Martial Law, banks will likely close. In event of a "run", they will likely restrict how much cash you can withdraw. In other emergency situations, like Katrina/Rita evacuations, I think there was a $300 limit.

If you knew the bank was never going to reopen, how much would you stand to lose?

Think about rolls of coins. Quarters esp. If the money is devalued, they likely will not mint new coins, only "new dollar" bills. Quarters might also work in vending machines you chance to find.

$5, 10 & 20 bills are the preferred items. Maybe some $50's and a few hundreds. You might be able to pay bill by using Postal Money Orders, they only accept cash for those. Postal money orders are better than traveler's checks. Easier to cash, accepted as cash. Stamps are also pretty good currency.

Nice to at least have cash in hand during a crisis. 90% silver coins will likely serve to preserve your wealth much better in the days ahead. Small gold coins carry a high premium, but are a good idea if you have a lot of funds to protect/convert. A bag of 90% coins weighs about 50lbs compared to under a pound for that much gold.

No one can advise you "when" will be the last time you can make "normal purchases". Hopefully, you have most of what you need already. Not much need in getting out into the fray if you don't really have to.

God Bless

Re: Pull money from bank?
good idea about the coins lester...I have a large container that I toss my pocket change into daily...usually around $400 when I take it to the coinstar machine yearly...

Just before the final dip, shopping for food/neccessities may not be wise as everyone is thinking the same thing...however if I know the dollar is going down for the last time, I would go buy stuff like deep cycle batteries, denatured alchohol/kerosene from paint stores, motor oil, etc....stuff thats useful but probably won't be thought of by the average joe...they'll be busy at the supermarkets...

I even made lists of items to get and the stores to get them from....avoiding the herd at all times...

whatever dollars are left over can be used as tp

after that, barter/PMs will be the order of the day...

Re: Pull money from bank?
Food stuff also:
Pepper, salt, sugar, seasonings, honey, vinegars, soy sauce, minced garlic
Canned tomatoes, tomato paste, ketchup in #10 cans
Peanut Butter, Jellies
#10 canned fruits
Pastas
Canned beans and meats
Candy & Soda

Lots of great stuff you can get cheap at Resale/Thrift stores:
Kitchen utensils, knives, pots/pans
towels, blankets, sheets, sleeping bags
Tents, backpacks, water bottles, fishing rods, hats, wool socks, blue jeans, nylon or goretex jackets
Durable plates and silverware

You can find used stuff at thrift stores that is better than you want to spend on new items. Just takes some looking. Spend a day roaming through them all in your area. Take a couple hundred bucks. You will be amazed at what you can find. Maybe you could sell some on Ebay?

10 speed and Mountainbikes are very common at resales. $10 or $20 will get you a good bike, maybe a name brand one. Maybe you can find a decent lawnmower. It's possible to remove the blade and make it into a battery charger by hooking a pulley & belt up to a used auto alternator. Always lots of uses for gasoline motors.

You might try the salvage yards. A genset with a siezed motor can be fixed or removed and used with another motor.

If you really have the bux to employ, consider buying several of the little 2kw Honda quiet generators. They will be worth Big Bux to somebody.

Nice to have a good covered trailer. They work well for storage or for relocating.
