You're quite right, simply put this is an ideology for societies that embrace personal freedom. A lot of asian countries were dominated by "divine" emperors and kings in their history who effectively erased the concept of personal freedom from their cultures. No amount of argument could probably convince someone from China or Japan about the merits of this ideology, because the basic notion that all human beings are sovereign simply doesn't exist to their collective psyche. It's my hope through example and over time that other cultures could see the merits of such a system, which is by no means perfect but I find it preferable to any form of authoritarian government.
