On another note, the word "god" is the name of an ancient Egyptian deity of luck. And does not refer the Creator of all things so I would have problem with the oath myself. The god of the US military is not something I would want to have any dealing with....just look at their symbolism. btw I am from Texas and have bled for my country so don't even go there....course that all happened when I was young an ignorant to the real world. |

I was under the impression you had the option to not say 'so help me God' if you objected. I stand corrected. Military 'The Enlistment oath and officer's Oath of Office both contain this phrase. Normally, it is not required to be said if the speaker has a personal or moral objection, as is true of all oaths administered by the United States government. However, a change in October 2013 to Air Force Instruction 36-2606 made it mandatory to include the phrase during Air Force enlistments/reenlistments. This change has made the instruction "consistent with the language mandated in 10 USC 502".'
