Origins of dowsing....

I can dowse for water. Never really developed it. I just know I can find water using a y shape branch from a tree.

It just depends on what you use as a divining rod. Often the use of a pendulum is tossed under the heading of dowsing. You might want to look up the use of a pendulum and see where that takes you.

you can locate water lines sewer lines and even electrical lines and buried hoses with two L shaped welding/brazing rods hold loosely in hands in front of you long ends pointing forward walk slowly and when rods cross or point perpendicular to each other the line is directly below the rods and running the direction the rods are pointing

Out here in in California, they take this stuff pretty seriously. At least in the Ag industry. I've seen this done
in the vineyards (I am a viticulturist), as they try and dowse for water before planting vineyards, and paying big geo companies to drill wells. Huge community swears by it. So far, from what I have witnessed, it works.

They call the folks to do this "witchers", and as a matter of fact, Marc Mondovi is well known in my state for doing exactly this.

Huh! Never in my life would I have connected it with something occultic until you said that the thought never even occurred to me. I actually learned to do this and got pretty damn good at it thought it would be a skill if the shtf.
