BREAKING: Washington, D.C. Concealed Carry Handgun Law Approved Unanimously By Council

Now four more people have concealed handguns in DC.

Someone told me today that in washington its legal to smoke weed. aswell as to own a gun (open/concealed carry i dont know)

I've pondered getting a med marijuana card, but I am not willing to give up license to carry for it.

You can have both...until you have to renew.

so once you have to renew your firearms license they will say you cant renew it because you have a marijuana card?
how often do you have to renew? and i guess once youve lost it its gone forever? or can you like quite your weed card and get your firearm back?

also what about your firearms if you were to not get renewed? lol

or can you still keep the guns just not carry them aroun?

That's a fine line. I live in MA and I renew firearms license to carry every 6yrs.

I believe the med pot card is twice a year.

They will soon be sharing medical info with police during interview process.
Ie: mental status

I am not positive about being denied, but I'm not willing to give up the guns.

well i guess it makes sense tho. if your not allowed to handle one your not allowed to have one. yea i wouldnt apply for the weed card either.

but since theres a thing like the weed card im positive you dont need a card yourself to get your hand on weed.

Not so fast. This is not going to result in the general public going armed in Washington's District of Criminals. From the article:


"Residents and visitors who want to carry a concealed handgun would have to show a specific reason that they need one, among other requirements...

The city's police chief would decide whether people have a compelling reason to carry a concealed firearm. People who have received death threats or have been the victims of domestic violence are among those who could be granted permits.

There are 3,250 registered handgun owners in the District. Mendelson has said he expects "a few hundred" people to obtain concealed-carry permits."

There are about 646,000 people there. "A few hundred" is only going to amount to security guards and people the chief of police thinks are important enough by his estimation.

DC's "permit" is not going to allow the second amendment to be exercised as a right by the general public. The are only doing this under court order and so it will squeak by only be permitting as select a few as possible.

DC and the State of Washington are different places, on the other side of the US from each other.

With all the fuss lately they did not have much choice, it was pass it or get voted out.

Just like the Rhode Island laws.

You have to prove you need one.

Ie: carrying large amounts of money
: driving thru Providence late at night

One the other hand, I can go over the boarder and buy all the ammo I want. Without even showing ID

well i guess i was talking about the state. and reales this was about dc. sorry this story just reminded me of what that person said. sorry i wasnt clear!

That last part is what's funny, who is he to decide who is worthy or not. It's like local Sheriffs who get to decide how much weed you can grow on your land, when you already have the permit, and the state laws don't say how much (except what you need). California prop 215 is almost not even worth it. It looks good on paper, but when the local sheriff can limit you to so much a year? Or so much per acres, or limit you to having to have so much land or you can't grow???
Shasta county, has set the bar too high to reach for medical patients. You now have to have 20 acres or more to legally grow under the Sheriff's rule of thumb. How is that anything like the law 215 was written.

Back to topic, guns. I don't believe anyone should have to get a permit to conceal carry. But then, I don't think anyone should HAVE to conceal carry, it should be open on your belt in plain sight to everyone around you.
So what has changed since the western days of America? Why do we now have to have a license to do what is constitutional?
Any judge who backs up laws, that go against the constitution should be fired, and never allowed to be a judge or politician ever again, they have proven they are against the constitution of America.

They had the same rules in California in order to have a concealed weapons permit a person had to show good cause. The law was challenged in court. The court ruled that it was not necessary to show good cause. The state was in violation of the second amendment because it was tried in a federal court this verdict would apply to any state that tries to use the show good cause rule.

The 2-1 ruling of a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said California counties were wrong to require law-abiding applicants to show “good cause” beyond self-defense to receive a concealed-weapons permit.
