Why do people do this?

It's simple. It makes some people feel good.

To compensate for insecurities?

And why are you so angry about it? Envy much?

It's worse when they brag about how many beautiful and engangered animals they've murdered just so they can turn them into trophies

I just don't get it

People brag about what they have because they are miserable inside...all the "stuff" they have aquired are things to make them feel better....to temporarily take away the emptiness they feel inside for whatever reason....they are truly shallow individuals.....they can'ta take these material things with them when they die......I truly feel sas for people like this.....they just haven't "gotten it" yet.....

Envy? No I don`t envy them,actually feel sorry for them,and no I`m not angry,it`s just annoying when you have to listen to them.

They do it to annoy you.

Because we live in a horrible world where a persons worth is measured in dollars and cents. I really feel bad for those caught up in this lie.

Spiritually empty people ceaselessly acquire and continually brag about material things.

It makes up for having small penis's...

It seems shallow and self absorbed.

If people do that around me I just make sure to stay away from them after that.

Some people you can't stay away from, family, I just get very quiet and refuse to play the game. Having beaten in to me, if you can't say anything nice....

And sometimes I am downright insulting if the people doing it are obnoxious enough.

Like the smart guy who brags about it all the time,like oh look at me I`m a genius,who cares,I know I don`t.

Or maybe they are just proud of their accomplishments!
You have a child who's beautiful, a newborn, you go around braggin and showing pics and all that...not because you're trying to make someone else feel less (because they don't have kids) but because you are proud of what you created, what you accomplished.

That's how I look at it.

Spiritual bragging does`nt bother me,if God gives you spiritual gifts,that`s great,it`s the worldly bragging.

To me that is good bragging,I brag on my kids all the time and I am very proud of them.

The people that act like they`re more and look down on other people.

The worst ones brag about their kids. My kid plays____________ insturments, paints, does ballet, and plays soccer. Well, did anyone ask the kid if they wanted a fulltime job at 4?

Someone can only make you feel inadequent or "less" if you allow them too.

If someone is being maliciously cruel in their intentions to compare what they have with what you don't, then they aren't worth getting upset over to begin with, because they are most definately trying to fill a hole in themselves.

My point is, they are the smae types of people that IMO, are insecure. They want to keep up with the Jones', and brag because they want to be loved. Some are just arrogant snotty assholes.

There's nothing wrong with tooting your own horn, but some people do it to basically put you down.

If the OP is experiencing this with a sibling, it's to punish.
If it's just that the person is so raised in status that their everyday life is so removed from yours, don't relate to them anymore, say, "That's nice, I have to go." And go. They'll get the hint. Sometimes it is just time to move on.

Its the reversal of Spiritual strength. Folks that make those material claims in a bragging way are in a sense saying that they are separated <this much> from anguishing poverty. They're equating it to an earthly stature. Its all so 'very real' and present. "This is what I've got in comparison".

Those who base their self-worth on material possessions have a childish mentality in which the ego is not properly controlled, as it would be in a mature adult. As a result, they feel a desire to assert their own superiority over others, using the logic "if I have more than others, I must be better than others."

The same process is seen at work in suburban neighborhoods all the time, in the "keeping up with the Joneses" syndrome. If we have less, we are worth less. This egoistical delusion is kept well-fed by a constant stream of social and media reinforcement. "Hey, that guy is worth 2 million dollars," and so on.

Those who measure their worth in dollars or material items are quite correct - by their own choice, that's all they are worth. They should be priceless human beings, but they sell themselves short.

I can't stand how people say "honestly" before every statement they make. Its like it actually helps them to believe the lies. The more a person says honestly, the more they lie.

How many of you have known, or know, a very real person? Maybe you youself are very real with your inner you as well as others.

I know this much, they're rare.

I've found this to be very true. Those who proclaim their honsesty the most are usually the least honest. I discovered this the hard way, by getting ripped off a number of times. Also, I've learned to avoid doing business with anyone who openly claims to be religious. Lost too much money on that. Last one was a mechanic who had a "Jesus fish" on the sign at his shope, who charged us $600 and failed to fix the problem.

If you don't like getting ripped off, fear the fish.
